Boise is a fun city with plenty of things to do downtown and in the surrounding areas. However, there are still plenty of fantastic things that you and your family can enjoy in the great outdoors. Let’s look at some of the best outdoor activities to try.
Spend Some Time on the Boise River
The Boise River travels right through the center of town and this means that no matter where you live in the area, you are literally minutes away from the water. You can go floating on the river starting at Barber Park and then get out down at Ann Morrison Park. It’s a nice and relaxing trip that lets you fully enjoy the sunshine and the water. You can have someone drop you off and then pick you up, or you can work with one of the local outfitters, who can provide shuttle service along with the floats.
If you don’t want to float, you can always take a kayak or other type of boat along the river. There are plenty of places to rent the equipment you need if you don’t already have it. Additionally, you can try your hand at fishing in the river, or in one of the other numerous bodies of water in the area.
Visit the Parks and Find Places to Go Hiking
Boise has a wealth of fantastic parks, many of which are located right along the river. Some of the most famous parks include Julia Davis Park along with the aforementioned Ann Morrison Park. Different parks in the area work well for different types of activities. If you want to find a place for the kids to enjoy the playgrounds and some grassy areas, you will have plenty of options.
You’ll also find some great places to go hiking in the area. No matter where you decide to go hiking, make sure you bring your camera along with you to take pictures of the views and even some wildlife you might encounter. Ridge to Rivers is a highly popular area with a number of different trails that go from the foothills to the river. They are great for walking and biking. Some of the trails here are great for horse riding as well.
The Greenbelt is a 25-mile stretch of trail that actually passes through many of the parks, including Willow Lane Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Riverside Park, Rhodes Skate Park, and Barber Park. You can walk the trail or take your bike. Since it runs right along the river, you always have great views.
Play Some Golf
Maybe you just want to get out onto the green with your trusty clubs. You will find quite a few great golf courses located in the Boise area. Some of the most popular include Warm Springs Golf Club, Hillcrest Country Club, Indian Lakes Golf Course, Quail Hollow Golf Club, Shadow Valley Golf Course, and Pierce Park Greens. If you love the sport, you will have plenty of places to play and perfect your game. Given the number of courses in the area, it offers tons of golf fun for years.
These are just some of the best things you and your family and friends can enjoy when you are living in the Boise area. You will find plenty of other activities to enjoy as well whether you want to go bird watching, star gazing, or just relax in your backyard. It’s a fantastic place to live and raise a family, and you will always have fun things to see and do that are just outside your front door.
