Hailey is a small community nestled in Idaho’s Wood River Valley. Population 8,000, Hailey, Idaho, is located just 146 miles away from Boise.


Founded in 1881, Hailey was a big beneficiary of the1880's mining boom. In 1883, the community got Idaho's first telephone exchange, and in 1889 it installed the state's first electric light system. The town is named for John Hailey, who laid out the town in 1881. He had made his fortune in the Boise Basin Gold Rush twenty years earlier and had invested his earnings in a stage and freight line.
