You’ve probably noticed there’s been a massive demand for housing in Idaho in recent years, especially here in the Treasure Valley. A new report by “The Travel” discusses cities in the U.S. with the most employment opportunities. They evaluated cities based on their population growth, unemployment rate (pre-COVID-19), cost of living, and overall economy to arrive at the top 12 cities.

In what shouldn’t come as a surprise, Boise found itself on the list in the sixth position. According to the report, “Boise is a bumping! In the last couple of years, the population has increased, meaning jobs have been created to sustain the growing city.”

The report mentions growth in the healthcare and educational sectors, but technology is quickly becoming a driving force for regional employment as well. In addition to Amazon’s new facility opening up later this year in Nampa, which is bringing with it around 1,000 jobs, there’s another as of yet unnamed company moving here by the end of the first quarter of 2021. The company is bringing with it nearly 700 jobs. Rumors also abound about a large data center project that won’t necessarily mean a lot of jobs, but it will require a lot of secondary industries to support it.

Additional speculation has some other large organizations eyeing Boise as a possible destination, due to relaxed regulations, lower taxes, and a better overall business climate.

Expectations are that the area economy is going to roar back to life once the pandemic ends. Signs are already pointing to a robust housing market, as even during the crisis, home sales were on par with where they were last year at this time. As one can imagine, with more employers moving to the area, there’s going to be even more demand in the housing market. Low mortgage rates are also helping to fuel demand as people can afford more house for their money. With historically low inventories here in the valley and extremely high demand, it’s going to continue to be a seller’s market with home prices continuing to rise.

The best course of action is to start looking for homes now if you’re interested in moving before the new employers moving into town. Once they open their doors for business, there will be a lot more competition for homes.
