Driver's Licensing & Vehicle Registration In Idaho
Any individual driving a motorized vehicle of any kind are required to be fully tested and licensed to drive in Idaho.
After you move to Idaho, you are required to obtain an Idaho driver's license within 90 days. Even residents who had full licenses in other states must obtain a new license from the DMV.
Residents of Boise, Eagle, Kuna, Meridian and Star will register in Ada County, while people settling in Caldwell or Nampa register in Canyon County. Once properly set up with an Idaho driver's license and vehicle registration, residents of Ada County are welcome to renew both online.
- U.S. Military members on active duty, as well as their dependents, who hold valid driver's licenses from other states.

- Non-residents over age 15 who hold licenses from other states or countries may drive in Idaho for up to 90 days without an Idaho license. If you are under the age of 16, you may only drive in daylight hours.
Registering A Vehicle In Idaho
New residents of Idaho must register and title any owned vehicle(s) within 90 days of moving to the state. All vehicles must be titled before they can be registered, but Idaho residents are welcome to submit title documents to the county assessor's motor vehicle office, then proceed directly to vehicle registration. Vehicles can be titled and registered at any of Idaho's 44 county assessor/motor vehicle offices.
Personalized License Plates
Some vehicles are eligible for personalized license plates, which may be purchased form the Idaho DMV by fax, mail or online. The initial personalized plate fee is $25.00, with an additional annual renewal fee of $15.00. Vehicles in excess of 26,000 pounds gross weight, motorhomes and motorcycles do not qualify for personalized plates.
