DESCRIPTION:Concert for Cause with Iron & Wine \n \nHen’s Teeth \nRelease Date: February 27th 2026 \n“I’ve always wanted to use that title\,” Sam Beam says of Hen’s Teeth\, his eighth full-length album and his sixth for Sub Pop Records. “I just love it. To me it suggests the impossible. Hen’s teeth do not exist. And that’s what this record felt like: a gift that shouldn’t be there but it is. An impossible thing but it’s real.” \nHen’s Teeth and his previous album\, Light Verse\, are siblings of a sort. They were recorded during the same sessions after a years-long dry spell\, with the same band\, at Waystation studio in Laurel Canyon. “When I’ve been on a writing kick\, and the band can meet me where I’m at\, they push me into something I hadn’t imagined. I’m at a point in my life where spontaneity is a lot more important to me. I don’t have as much to prove as I used to. I’m a lot freer and I love making music more than ever. There are no right or wrong answers. You just pray for your luck and try your best.” \nIn this case prayers were answered and luck struck hard. The musicians cohered so quickly and inspired each other so much that they were often getting songs recorded in just a few takes\, sometimes at the rate of two or three per day. The two albums might therefore be thought of as fraternal twins: they share DNA and complement each other but have distinct identities and are defined as much by their differences as their similarities. \nLight Verse (2024) took its name from a form of poetry that makes heavy use of wordplay\, humor\, and nonsense. Its cover depicts figures in silhouette\, floating or falling through a cyanotype sky. It’s a sweet and airy album\, impressionistic\, at times even flirting with abstraction\, a hearty shaking off of the doom and gloom of the Covid era. Many of the songs are named for ideas or feelings that gesture toward hope amidst uncertainty: “You Never Know\,” “All in Good Time” (a gorgeous duet with Fiona Apple)\, “Cutting It Close\,” “Taken by Surprise.” \nThe world of Hen’s Teeth is earthier\, darker\, more robust and more tactile than that of Light Verse. The songs have titles like “Roses\,” “Robin’s Egg\,” “Dates and Dead People\,” “Singing Saw.” “Run into the one you love forever / Laugh into each other’s empty mouth\,” Beam sings on “Roses\,” the album’s first track. It’s one of several songs in which lovers are depicted as so deeply entwined they physically merge. “Paper and Stone” recalls that “But for the time we fell in two / You’d be me and I’d be you / One crust of bread could fit in our mouths / You’d breathe in and I’d let it out.” And on “In Your Ocean\,” we find Beam “Praying for dry ground / Though I only want to drown / When I find myself swimming in your ocean.” \nThe cover is a portrait of Beam surrounded on all sides by flourishing ferns and other tropical plant life. He is wearing a pin-stripe jacket and holding a massive cluster of grapes\, prodigious beard spilling down his chest. He could be a local harvest god or a gentleman outlaw holed up in a jungle cave. There are white feathers covering his eyes but these somehow do not suggest blindness. Rather they seem to literalize the poetic notion of an artist’s vision taking flight. The whole surreal scene is washed in humid\, spooky red. It’s somewhere between Leonora Carrington and Frida Kahlo\, and the contrast with the cool blue-white palette of Light Verse could not be starker. \n“The experiments in this one were more with genre than with form. For the last couple years one of my go-to’s has been Van Morrisson’s Astral Weeks\, that style where jazz musicians play folk music and it blossoms in different ways than folk musicians are normally interested in doing. ‘Singing Saw’ feels like a song that Doc Boggs and Simon & Garfunkel might have done together. ‘Roses’ and ‘In Your Ocean’ are straight forward folk rock\, but they build to these apocalyptic endings. ‘Dates and Dead People’ and ‘Defiance\, Ohio’ take a lot from Tropicalia\, which is some of my favorite music too. I don’t see it as that much different from jazz. All these forms have been in rock music forever.” \nAbout the players: David Garza on guitar\, Sebastian Steinberg on bass\, and Tyler Chester on keyboards. Griffin Goldsmith\, Beth Goodfellow\, and Kyle Crane all play drums. Paul Cartwright plays violin and mandolin among other stringed instruments; he also handled string arrangements for both records. The indie-country trio I’m With Her appears on the ebullient lead single\, “Robin’s Egg\,” and again on the tender\, mournful “Wait Up.” \n“I’m obsessed with duets\,” Beam says. “Ever since I did Love Letter to Fire with Jesca Hoop. I just love the form. It’s inherently dramatic. And it’s so fun. I had these songs and I finished them with I’m With Her in mind.” Arden Beam—Beam’s daughter—contributes harmonies and backing vocals onthe tracks “Roses\,” “Singing Saw\,” “Defiance\, Ohio” and “Grace Notes.” Her contributions lend a personal poignancy\, as well as a wonderful sonic texture\, to Hen’s Teeth. Born two months before the release of his debut album\, The Creek Drank the Cradle (2002)\, she is now 23 years old and a musician herself—the first of his children to appear on one of his records. \n“It’s exciting\, making it more of a family affair. I like making Iron and Wine records\, but I like the collaboration even more. Interacting with a bunch of friends and being blown away by what they can bring\, musically and emotionally\, to a set of three chords. I get to play all day with these people I love and they respond by giving me their most vulnerable\, expressive self. It’s the weirdest\, best job ever.” \nBy Justin Taylor \n\n \n\nKen Pomeroy\nKen Pomeroy will break your heart. She’ll do it with a single line––sometimes\, just one word. The pain begins as an empathetic ache. Then\, as Pomeroy sings her stories\, you begin to see yourself in her hurt and hope. And you realize: We’re in this together.\nPomeroy’s outstretched hand to the wounded manifests as startlingly good songs. Her soprano is comforting––almost sweet––but perhaps most powerful delivering a devastating line. A deft guitarist\, she opts for beds of rootsy strings that can soothe or haunt. But it’s her writing that really shines and stings.\nRaised in Moore\, Oklahoma\, Pomeroy is Cherokee. Her mamaw gave her the name ᎤᏍᏗᏀᏯᏓᎶᏂᎨᎤᏍᏗᎦ\, which means “Little Wolf with Yellow Hair.” Existing in the intersection of past\, present and future; Pomeroy effortlessly channels the ancestral wisdom of her elders and her lived experience through her lyrical and instrumental composition. Writing as a cathartic release culminated in Pomeroy’s new album\, Cruel Joke\, released May 16\, 2025 on Rounder Records. The 12-track indie-folk collection creates a wild but safe space of Pomeroy’s own––a space that\, like 23-year-old Pomeroy herself\, is brutally honest\, proudly Native American\, and undeniably brilliant.\nPeople have noticed. After honing their sound with numerous hometown gigs\, Smile Empty Soul began venturing to the Sunset Strip\, and eventually passed a demo to Todd Parker of the Los Angeles indie ThroBack. That exposure led to a deal with Jason Flom’s Lava imprint\, which was expanding in the wake of early signee Kid Rock’s white-hot success. The trio hooked up with producer John Lewis Parker\, who was at the helm for their self-titled debut\, issued by Lava in May 2003. With its screeching guitars and Danielson’s rage-filled vocals\, the album was indebted to the alternative sounds of the early ’90s. Vultures\, Smile Empty Soul’s third record (the band’s sophomore outing\, Anxiety\, was scheduled for release in 2005\, but a split with Lava kept the album from seeing the light of day until the band released it through their own MRAfia Records label in 2009) hit the streets in 2006\, and was followed by the aforementioned Anxiety. DESCRIPTION:Fruit Bats | The Landfill | MRG887 \nThe midwest\, particularly the part of the midwest Eric D. Johnson hails from\, is a largely flat expanse. Zipping through it on the highway\, you’ll see cities and towns rise up in the distance\, but blink and you’ll miss other man-made rejoinders to horizontal living dotting the landscape\, hill after hill\, built from the refuse of the past: landfills. Some of these hills make for great sledding spots\, parks\, and trails. Others turn organic waste into compost. The Landfill\, Fruit Bats’ June 12\, 2026 album from Merge Records\, is something else entirely: a mountain dominating the landscape of Johnson’s heart. \nThis being a Fruit Bats record\, one scales that mountain to take in the view\, to see the future spread out as wide and endless as the midwestern plains. “But the mountain that gives us this vantage point\,” Johnson says\, “is made out of the trash that we’ve created\, the collective weight of the past and where it’s taken us.” When he details that view on title track and lead single “The Landfill” — “a holy vision / of what could be / and couldn’t be / and could have been” — it’s thrilling to hear him sent soaring by a full complement of instruments. But what’s truly stunning is how\, in his recontouring from could to couldn’t to could have been\, he has lost none of the vulnerability that was brought to the foreground of his songwriting by 2025’s solo outing\, Baby Man. \nOver the course of his now 25-year career under the moniker\, most of Eric D. Johnson’s output as Fruit Bats has been the product of patience and fine-tuning. His songs\, to borrow a phrase\, are slow growers\, given life on albums that encompass long stretches of time and memory. Baby Man changed that — he disallowed himself from referring to material he’d been working on before laying the album down\, utilizing the morning pages technique of stream-of-consciousness\, observational songwriting which flowed directly into his afternoon recording sessions. It was both a breathtaking document of Johnson’s skill as a singer-songwriter and an unvarnished account of the two weeks in which he recorded the album. \nBaby Man’s closeness to Johnson’s heart and the close attention to his voice and instrument its minimalist-maximalist ethos required uncorked something in him as he wrote towards a new full band effort. “That session was over\,” he explains\, “but there was way more to explore. I liked the immediacy of it\, and I wanted to see how that would translate into a full-band Fruit Bats record.” Within weeks\, he was back in a studio\, this time with his band — David Dawda (bass)\, Josh Mease (guitars\, synth)\, Frank LoCrasto (piano\, synth)\, and Kosta Galanopoulos (drums) — with whom Johnson has spent over a decade building Fruit Bats into one of the most in-demand live acts in indie rock. Listening to The Landfill\, it’s not hard to understand why: simply put\, this band smokes. \nProducing the initial recording sessions in Washington’s Bear Creek Studios\, Johnson set out to capture “the sound of this band I constantly marvel at\, the feeling of being in a room with musicians you love and trust enough to let them cook.” They laid most of it down on the floor — no click tracks\, no comped vocals\, and minimal overdubs\, with frequent collaborator Thom Monahan returning to provide additional production and The Landfill’s final mix. “It’s how we do things with my other band\, Bonny Light Horseman\, and I was curious to see how it would work with Fruit Bats\,” Johnson notes. “It’s both a very personal record\, and my most collaborative to date.” \nIt’s also the most live a Fruit Bats record has been since 2009’s The Ruminant Band\, and in paring back the number of tracks that typically layer a full-band song\, the psychedelic\, technicolor dreaminess of their sound is more vivid than ever. Time and space melt into the sublime as the band gels around Johnson’s hazy croon on “That Goddamn Sun\,” stretching out to accommodate him as he trips from California to North Carolina. In striking a balance between ecstatic romance and melancholia\, “Think Aboutcha” occupies the blissful-but-doomed intersection of the E Street Band and Paul McCartney\, playful but playing for stakes that are larger than life\, while “Perhaps We’re a Storm” charges headlong into the unknown. \nAll of these songs — most of the songs on The Landfill\, in fact — mark themselves immediately as some of the best in Eric D. Johnson’s ever-expanding songbook\, seekers and anthems alike. A child prodigy who began performing across Europe before the age of ten\, Mozart possessed an extraordinary ability to write music that was both technically brilliant and deeply expressive. During his short lifetime\, he composed more than 600 works\, many of which remain cornerstones of the classical repertoire. \nAlthough his remarkable talent earned him admiration from royalty and audiences alike\, Mozart spent much of his adult life pursuing artistic independence as a freelance composer. His operas\, in particular\, revealed an unmatched gift for bringing characters to life\, balancing humor\, drama\, and emotional honesty with music of remarkable beauty and sophistication. \nComposed in 1782\, The Abduction from the Seraglio marked Mozart’s first great operatic success in Vienna and helped establish German-language opera as a serious artistic form. The Abduction from the Seraglio remains a perfect introduction to that genius\, combining dazzling music\, irresistible comedy\, and timeless storytelling. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSynopsis (spoilers)\n\n\n\n\nAct I\nTurkey\, the 1700s. Pasha Selim has bought as slaves three Europeans taken prisoner by pirates: Konstanze\, a young Spanish lady; Blondchen\, her English maid; and Pedrillo\, who is the servant of Konstanze’s fiancé\, Belmonte\, and in love with Blondchen. Belmonte has traced the trio to the pasha’s seaside palace\, where Konstanze has become her new master’s favorite. The pasha has made Pedrillo his gardener and has given Blondchen to Osmin\, his palace overseer. \nAt the palace gate\, Belmonte encounters Osmin\, who treats him coolly and flies into a rage when Belmonte asks about Pedrillo\, Osmin’s rival. Osmin drives Belmonte away and then rails at Pedrillo when he suggests that they should finally make peace. Belmonte returns and learns from Pedrillo that the pasha has fallen in love with Konstanze but will not force himself on her. Pedrillo will try to arrange a meeting between Konstanze and Belmonte and an escape by boat with Blondchen. \nKonstanze returns from a pleasure trip with the pasha. He has been treating her with respect but she cannot forget Belmonte and keeps rejecting his advances. Pedrillo introduces Belmonte to the pasha as a promising young architect and Selim welcomes him. Osmin tries to bar the way as Belmonte and Pedrillo enter the palace\, but they force their way past him. \nAct II\nIn the palace garden\, Blondchen explains to Osmin how a European woman should be treated. Konstanze finds Blondchen and laments her sad situation. When the pasha again asks her to marry him\, she tells him she would prefer torture\, even death\, to betraying her fiancé. Blondchen and Pedrillo discuss the escape plan: they will get Osmin drunk and all four leave on Belmonte’s ship. Even though Osmin’s religion forbids him to drink wine\, Pedrillo has no difficulty in getting him drunk\, leaving the coast clear for the two couples to meet. \nAct III\nThat night\, Belmonte and Pedrillo come to the ladies’ window with a ladder. Pedrillo sings a serenade as the signal for escape\, but this wakes Osmin\, who is not too hungover to realize what is going on. The four are locked up. When brought before the pasha\, Belmonte suggests he collect a ransom from his wealthy family\, the Lostados. At the mention of this name\, the pasha realizes that Belmonte is the son of an old enemy\, the man who exiled him from his own country. He decides to repay evil with good\, freeing Konstanze and Belmonte\, and even Blondchen and Pedrillo. The grateful couples praise their benefactor as they prepare to set sail.

A child prodigy who began performing across Europe before the age of ten\, Mozart possessed an extraordinary ability to write music that was both technically brilliant and deeply expressive. During his short lifetime\, he composed more than 600 works\, many of which remain cornerstones of the classical repertoire. \nAlthough his remarkable talent earned him admiration from royalty and audiences alike\, Mozart spent much of his adult life pursuing artistic independence as a freelance composer. His operas\, in particular\, revealed an unmatched gift for bringing characters to life\, balancing humor\, drama\, and emotional honesty with music of remarkable beauty and sophistication. \nComposed in 1782\, The Abduction from the Seraglio marked Mozart’s first great operatic success in Vienna and helped establish German-language opera as a serious artistic form. The Abduction from the Seraglio remains a perfect introduction to that genius\, combining dazzling music\, irresistible comedy\, and timeless storytelling. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSynopsis (spoilers)\n\n\n\n\nAct I\nTurkey\, the 1700s. Pasha Selim has bought as slaves three Europeans taken prisoner by pirates: Konstanze\, a young Spanish lady; Blondchen\, her English maid; and Pedrillo\, who is the servant of Konstanze’s fiancé\, Belmonte\, and in love with Blondchen. Belmonte has traced the trio to the pasha’s seaside palace\, where Konstanze has become her new master’s favorite. The pasha has made Pedrillo his gardener and has given Blondchen to Osmin\, his palace overseer. \nAt the palace gate\, Belmonte encounters Osmin\, who treats him coolly and flies into a rage when Belmonte asks about Pedrillo\, Osmin’s rival. Osmin drives Belmonte away and then rails at Pedrillo when he suggests that they should finally make peace. Belmonte returns and learns from Pedrillo that the pasha has fallen in love with Konstanze but will not force himself on her. Pedrillo will try to arrange a meeting between Konstanze and Belmonte and an escape by boat with Blondchen. \nKonstanze returns from a pleasure trip with the pasha. He has been treating her with respect but she cannot forget Belmonte and keeps rejecting his advances. Pedrillo introduces Belmonte to the pasha as a promising young architect and Selim welcomes him. Osmin tries to bar the way as Belmonte and Pedrillo enter the palace\, but they force their way past him. \nAct II\nIn the palace garden\, Blondchen explains to Osmin how a European woman should be treated. Konstanze finds Blondchen and laments her sad situation. When the pasha again asks her to marry him\, she tells him she would prefer torture\, even death\, to betraying her fiancé. Blondchen and Pedrillo discuss the escape plan: they will get Osmin drunk and all four leave on Belmonte’s ship. Even though Osmin’s religion forbids him to drink wine\, Pedrillo has no difficulty in getting him drunk\, leaving the coast clear for the two couples to meet. \nAct III\nThat night\, Belmonte and Pedrillo come to the ladies’ window with a ladder. Pedrillo sings a serenade as the signal for escape\, but this wakes Osmin\, who is not too hungover to realize what is going on. The four are locked up. When brought before the pasha\, Belmonte suggests he collect a ransom from his wealthy family\, the Lostados. At the mention of this name\, the pasha realizes that Belmonte is the son of an old enemy\, the man who exiled him from his own country. He decides to repay evil with good\, freeing Konstanze and Belmonte\, and even Blondchen and Pedrillo. The grateful couples praise their benefactor as they prepare to set sail.
