SUMMARY:MASTA KILLA
DESCRIPTION:Considered the ninth member of the Wu-Tang Clan\, Masta Killa (b. Elgin Turner; aliases: High Chief\, Noodles) recorded his first rhymes at the end of “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’” from the Clan‘s 1993 seminal debut\, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). He had never seriously written rhymes\, let alone rap before then. However\, under the tutelage of the GZA\, he developed a steadily paced flow that accentuated his intellectual lyrics — although equally distinctive were his smooth voice and understated demeanor. Because Killa was incarcerated at the time\, his closing verse on “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’” was his sole contribution to the album\, but he always remained in the fold on the set of Wu-Tang solo records that ensued in the mid-’90s\, including GZA‘s Liquid Swords\, Raekwon‘s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx\, and Ghostface Killah‘s Ironman. There was no questioning his status in the Clan after the release of their 1997 album\, Wu-Tang Forever\, where Killa contributed to numerous tracks\, particularly his standout lines on the lead single\, “Triumph.” \nNonetheless\, similar to the plight of Wu-Tang member Inspectah Deck\, Killa worked on his solo material for many years before it would actually come out. After two more Wu-Tang full-lengths and a second string of Wu splinter projects\, his solo career finally began with No Said Date\, released via underground rap label Nature Sounds in 2004. Staying in-house with producers the RZA\, Mathematics\, and True Master\, the album was one of the few Wu-related releases post-Wu-Tang Forever that received critical praise\, particularly by Wu-Tang‘s loyal fan base. Killa returned in 2006 with Made in Brooklyn\, working with a more diverse array of underground producers\, including MF Doom\, Bronze Nazareth\, and the legendary Pete Rock. His third album arrived in 2012. Selling My Soul featured guest spots from Kurupt and Ol’ Dirty Bastard\, as well as production by 9th Wonder\, Mathematics\, and PF Cuttin. Another long gap followed before Killa released his fourth studio LP\, Loyalty Is Royalty\, in 2017. Wu-Tang members Cappadonna\, Method Man\, RZA\, GZA\, and Inspectah Deck joined other guests like Redman\, Sean Price\, Prodigy\, and KXNG CROOKED on the album. ~ Cyril Cordor\, Rovi

SUMMARY:TOO $HORT
DESCRIPTION:Too $hort was among the first West Coast rap stars\, recording three albums on his own before he made his major-label debut in 1988 with the RIAA-certified gold Born to Mack. Anticipating much of the later gangsta phenomenon\, he restricted his lyrical themes to explicit tales of sexual prowess and street life\, with the occasional social message track to mix things up. Likely the only rapper to have recorded with 2Pac\, the Notorious B.I.G.\, and Jay-Z — all superstars indebted to his work — he has remained an inspiration for his vulgar verses and sparse instrumentals\, remaining an iconic presence in the hip-hop landscape through the ensuing decades with projects like 2020’s E-40 collaboration Ain’t Gone Do It/Terms and Conditions. \nBorn Todd Shaw on April 28\, 1966\, Too $hort grew up in South Central Los Angeles. Soon after his family moved to Oakland in the early ’80s\, he began selling tapes out of the back of his car. Signed to the local label 75 Girls\, in 1985 he released his first proper album\, Don’t Stop Rappin’. Two albums followed in the next two years\, after which Too $hort formed his own Dangerous Music label with friend Freddy B. He released Born to Mack in 1987\, and sold more than 50\,000 copies just by riding around the region. New York’s Jive Records picked up on the buzz from across the country\, and re-released the album one year later. With virtually no radio airplay\, Born to Mack went gold and its follow-up\, Life Is…Too Short\, achieved platinum sales by 1989. \nImmense underground success and nationwide distribution primed Too $hort for radio airplay. “The Ghetto\,” from 1990’s $hort Dog’s in the House\, made number 12 on the Billboard R&B/hip-hop chart and enjoyed a brief stay just outside the Top 40 of the Hot 100. The roll continued with 1992’s Shorty the Pimp and 1993’s Get in Where You Fit In\, both of which went platinum. By the time of 1995’s Cocktails\, however\, Too $hort began to be drowned out by a glut of similar-sounding West Coasters\, and though Gettin’ It (Album Number Ten) eventually became his sixth platinum album\, by late 1996 he decided to retire. Three years later\, however\, he returned with Can’t Stay Away\, which debuted in the Top Ten and went gold. Back for the long term\, Too $hort released four albums during the next four years\, then in 2006 scored one of his biggest hits with the Lil Jon-produced title track for Blow the Whistle. After Get Off the Stage was released in 2007\, Too $hort returned to independence. During the 2010s\, he issued the albums Still Blowin’\, No Trespassing\, the guest-loaded Hella Disrespectful: Bay Area Mixtape\, The Sex Tape Playlist\, and The Pimp Tape\, on his Dangerous Music label. He rounded out the decade in 2019 with the release of his 21st studio album\, The Vault. The next year he returned with fellow Bay Area legend E-40 on the collaborative mixtape Ain’t Gone Do It/Terms and Conditions. In addition to the two headliners\, the tape included guest spots from Larry June\, Freddie Gibbs\, G-Eazy\, Guapdad 4000\, and many others. ~ John Bush & Fred Thomas\, Rovi

SUMMARY:Futurebirds Winter 2025 Tour
DESCRIPTION:Rock juggernaut Futurebirds’ newest EP\, Bloomin’ Too\, is a benchmark that not only celebrates 13 years together\, it’s also a testament to the sheer iron will of a group of musicians hungry for the fruits of its labor. “Futurebirds is the best it’s been right now\, far and away\,” says singer/guitarist Carter King. “We’ve been unintentionally carving out our own space since the beginning\, since we never exactly fit in anywhere else musically. We were always too indie rock for the jam festival\, too country for the indie scene\, a little too psych-rock to feel like we were Americana. The music over the years just kind of created its own weird little ecosystem — it’s thriving and it feels great.” The Athens\, Georgia-based group once again tapped storied My Morning Jacket guitarist/producer Carl Broemel in the latest chapter of this seamless\, bountiful partnership that initially came to fruition with the 2021 EP\, Bloomin.’ “Carl is extremely perceptive and an all-around smart dude. He’s really in tune with what the band is and what it strives to be. He’s engaged and understands our vision\,” King says. “He’s a longtime hero of ours\, and now is a friend and collaborator. It’s wild. And it’s great to be able to defer to someone you respect so much with creative decisions in the studio — we don’t just give that trust to just anybody.” Captured this past spring at the legendary Ronnie’s Place in Nashville\, Tennessee\, the seven-song Bloomin’ Too is a vortex of sonic textures. The album ricochets from cosmic space\, rock to rough around the edges\, alt-country dreamscapes\, sandy beach bum odes to kick in your step pop ballads — all signature tones and musical avenues at the core of the Birds’ wide musical palette. “This is probably the quickest turnaround we’ve ever had for a record — we felt confident right when we got into the studio and just cranked it out\,” says singer/guitarist Daniel Womack. “All of our frequencies are aligned as a band\, where we’ve got this free-flow of ideas happening. We’re all on the same page right now and we have a lot of momentum going.” For Broemel\, he finds a sincere kinship and solidarity with Futurebirds. Witnessing first-hand the band’s blue-collar work ethic in the studio\, Broemel was impressed and inspired by the ‘Birds’ democratic ways and means in how music is created and cultivated in the studio. “Futurebirds have this unique vibe with three singer-songwriters in the band\, where everyone is constantly shifting their function depending on the song\,” Broemel says. “Everyone just kind of falls into place and finds something to contribute. Someone will lead the charge on one song\, then fall back and let another take charge on the next — it’s something rare to see and behold in rock music\, where normally there’s just one songwriter and one leader.” That camaraderie between founding members King\, Womack\, singer/guitarist Thomas Johnson and bassist Brannen Miles began when they were college students at the University of Georgia. In recent years\, the quartet has added pedal steel player Kiffy Myers\, keyboardist Spencer Thomas and drummer Tom Myers. “It’s the best feeling in the world to be up there onstage\, to look across and see these other super talented dudes all stoked to be there\,” King says. “We’re brothers and family and all that\, but what’s truly most impressive is that we’ve remained good friends on top of that. At the end of the day\, for us\, it’s always been about having a good time. That’s what keeps this thing moving.” From there\, it’s been endless miles on that old lost highway. It’s this rollercoaster of emotions\, thoughts and actions — gig after gig\, year after year — where now the band will be making its debut at Red Rocks Amphitheatre for a highly-anticipated two-night run (Oct. 3-4) alongside indie-rock darlings Caamp. “It was pure elation when we were offered Red Rocks\,” Womack says. “Everything we’ve been working towards has always included being able to play Red Rocks someday — it’s a big win for us and such a gratifying feeling.” And though Futurebirds have offered up another instant classic release with Bloomin’ Too\, the foundation of the group’s ethos\, attitude\, and rabid fan base remains its live shows — these undulating waves of sound\, energy and passion spilling out onto the audience in this two-way street of respect and admiration. “The line between the stage and the audience has always been blurred\, and we’ve definitely carried ourselves that way since the beginning\,” Womack says. “The early days of rock-n-roll were about the mysticism surrounding musicians and bands. That’s never been us. We want to embrace our fans\, to actually hang out and get to know them — they’re all part of the BirdFam.'” Reflecting on the last 13 years\, King can only shake his head in awe of what has transpired over that time period for Futurebirds\, personally and professionally. From playing empty dive bars to selling out theaters coast to coast\, from college kids to now husbands and fathers — the sacred flame of music\, creativity and performance continually cradling and nurturing deeply-held dreams. “You start out doing this solely because it’s fun and you have no preconceived notion of what’s going to happen or what it should be. And then\, you get a taste of this possibly being your actual life\,” King says. “Maybe you get too serious about it\, or too wrapped up in how you are being received\, or the industry watermarks of success. But\, life’s just a perception game. It’s about having fun and aligning yourself with the right people. The community that’s built up around us has made it real easy to peel back all that brush and noise and see this thing for what it really is.”

SUMMARY:MOONTRICKS
DESCRIPTION:Based in the rustic Kootenay mountains of Western Canada\, Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman of nationally renowned electro-folk duo Moontricks draw inspiration from the ongoing cycles of the natural world. Both volatile and constant—like nature’s best offerings—the band finds solace and beauty in the fusion of seemingly disparate elements. There’s a kind of technicolor campfire quality to their uniquely hybrid sound: Each track is steeped in tradition and polished with a futuristic sheen\, mixing organic folk\, roots rock\, and old-time blues with modern electronic production. Since its initial release\, the band’s breakout hit “Home” has reached over 5 million streaming plays\, and their original tracks have been licensed for a wide range of television networks\, including Netflix and Fox Sports. With the release of their debut full-length album Currents\, the duo reveals an ever-evolving\, cohesive blend of introspective writing\, soulful\, gritty blues\, boot-stomping basslines\, and intricate electronic arrangements. \nGurley and Rodman first connected at a music festival in rural BC\, then collaborated on a series of rhythmic\, instrumental soundscapes that eventually developed into their signature electro-folk sound. After dropping their debut single “Home” in 2013\, they joined international tours and festivals in Australia\, Costa Rica\, and across the USA\, gaining a loyal following for their dynamic live shows\, which feature a rotating assortment of guitar\, keys\, banjo\, and vocals accented with original electronic elements. Now with their debut album Currents released September 09\, 2022 via Westwood Recordings\, Moontricks honor the steadfast cycles of nature that carry the world forward\, despite the chaos around and inside us. “The solace found in reaching past our personal confines into the vastness beyond them is something we return to again and again—in nature and in our music\,” says lead singer and songwriter Rodman. Gurley\, who focuses on production\, views the album as a series of paths leading into unknown territory. Vast\, intimate\, and dazzling\, Currents is an album about settling into feeling comfortably lost\, and being okay with not knowing it all. It’s about finding joy and inspiration in the act of seeking.

SUMMARY:INNOCENT MAN album release
DESCRIPTION:Innocent Man is a dynamic rock and roll band formed in 2009\, blending elements of alternative country\, rock\, blues\, and prog to create a sound that is both diverse and captivating. Based in Boise\, Idaho\, the band features a lineup of lifelong friends: Josh Sears on drums\, Kristin Burns on fiddle and vocals\, Dan Burns on guitar and vocals\, Conlyn McCain on bass guitar\, Chris Saunders on keyboards\, and Scott Sprague on guitar and vocals. \nInnocent Man is set to release their highly anticipated third album on January 31\, 2025\, at the Treefort Music Hall in Boise. The band has shared the stage with notable acts such as Blues Traveler\, Micky and the Motorcars\, Jessica Hernandez\, Kyle Gaas\, and Wade Bowen\, showcasing their energetic performances and strong musical chemistry. Drawing from their shared experiences\, Innocent Man cultivates a rich sound that resonates with audiences\, making them a standout presence in the music scene. \n\n\n\n \n\nThe Plagiarists\nStraight outta Les Bois\, The Plagiarists meld an indie garage rock ethos with playfully dyslexic lyrics. It’s a surreal place where a song can change keys every two measures\, commemorate the Battle of Britain\, or slip quantum mechanics into a song about hot rods and karma (or should that really be carma?). \nBand extrovert\, multi-instrumentalist Jackie Elo’s vocals reverberates like an old soul with a kind heart. Drummer Kacey Martinez keeps the rhythms tight but not too tight\, because music ought to organically ebb and flow. A rocker at heart\, Kelsey Aldrich adds his guitar chops and sweet bass tones to the mix. Vocalist\, guitarist\, and Bass VI aficionado Jason Dykstra sees music in color and loves the sound of 60 Cycle Hum in the morning.

SUMMARY:Emo Nite
DESCRIPTION:$1 per ticket transaction sponsors Emo Nite Gives A F*ck.\nDonations are allocated for worthwhile organizations focusing on:\nMental Health\nHarm Reduction\nChildren & Families\nPoverty & Homelessness\nDisenfranchised Communities\nTerminal Illness\n\n+ Google Calendar\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtists\n\n\nEmo Nite\n\n \n\nNot a band. Not DJ’s. We throw parties for the music we love. \nAs Rolling Stone observed a few years ago\, “Emo Nite Vindicated the Scene.” \nSince they threw their first party at an East L.A. dive bar\, Morgan Freed and T.J. Petracca\, and a dedicated crew of regular attendees\, built Emo Nite into a phenomenon. Top-tier emo artists\, old and new\, curate playlists and perform\, with guest lists boasting members of blink-182\, All Time Low\, Dashboard Confessional\, The Maine\, and Good Charlotte. Scene-friendly pop culture mavericks often participate\, like past attendees Post Malone\, Demi Lovato\, Machine Gun Kelly\, and Skrillex. \nIt’s all too easy to forget that before the first Emo Nite in December 2014\, “emo” was a joke. \nSomehow on its journey from a melodic post-hardcore subgenre\, built on earnest emotional expression\, to a mainstream moniker assigned to anything remotely angsty\, “emo” became a dirty word. Despite the positive impact ushered in by waves of bands\, from the crucial “Revolution Summer” and Sunny Day Real Estate through Taking Back Sunday and My Chemical Romance\, accepting “emo” as a dismissive designation or identity invited polite embarrassment and even scorn. \nBut Freed and Petracca grew up loving the music associated with emo and the people like them who similarly embraced outsider art and subculture\, regardless of changing fashions or pretentious snobbery. Petracca told The New Yorker the idea behind the first Emo Nite celebration was to center a happy\, communal experience on the music they once listened to when they were upset and alone. \n“I sang Dashboard Confessional at karaoke at a friend’s birthday party and thought it was super fun to go out with friends and listen to music we actually liked\,” recalls Petracca\, who met Freed when the pair worked at a creative agency together. “Every other club in LA played EDM\, Top 40\, or hip-hop. We always found ourselves pre-gaming with emo and pop-punk music before we went out.” \nFreed knew a bartender at the Short Stop in Echo Park and convinced him to let them throw a party on a random\, rainy Tuesday. They invited friends via Facebook; double the bar’s capacity turned up. “We decided to see how far we could take it\,” Petracca says. “‘Who would be the craziest guest?’ We invited Mark Hoppus\, and he came! He did our first one at Echoplex\, which was our third party ever.” \n“There’s no disconnect between the artist and fan\,” Freed points out. “I think that’s brought people closer to the music. It created a really strong sense of community\, at a time when emo wasn’t ‘cool.’” \nThere may be a surprise acoustic set or even a full-band performance\, but ultimately\, it’s about the experience. Emo Nite turned a party into a community\, reclaiming the spirit of how the scene began. \nIt’s now a recurring event thrown by dozens of friends in over 30 cities in the United States. Emo Nite runs full-day festivals and curates coveted performance spots at Coachella\, Life is Beautiful\, and Firefly. Freed and Petracca launched successful clothing collaborations with brands like OBEY\, Urban Outfitters\, PLEASURES\, The Hundreds\, Rose in Good Faith\, Market\, and OWSLA. \n“A larger promoter told us the shelf life of a club night in Los Angeles was two years\,” Freed says\, marveling at Emo Nite’s staying power. “A hundred percent of it is the people that go to it. This music makes people feel connected. The energy of it is so special. You get a group of people together who look different\, but they have this thing in common. We started seeing friend groups form really\, really quickly. People met their significant others at these events. The community really trusts each other.” \n“Emo Nite LA has become an essential gathering point for fans of emo\, pop-punk\, and related styles\,” Rolling Stone noted. \nIn October 2021\, Emo Nite’s founders threw Emo Nite Vegas Vacation\, a three-day event headlined by Avril Lavigne and Machine Gun Kelly\, with Sleeping With Sirens\, MOD SUN\, 3OH!3\, and more. \n“What Emo Nite does better than any of their competitors is they make ‘emo culture’ feel both nostalgic and brand new\,” The Summer Set’s Brian Logan Dales told Forbes\, in a profile which included professions of love from members of Papa Roach\, Underoath\, and State Champs. “You can go to an Emo Nite with your best friends and sing along to old songs you grew up with\, and at the same time\, discover a brand-new artist who’s making music today because they grew up on that very same music as you. They’ve taken the emo of the past and helped it forge a new path for the future.” \nAs emo reenters popular culture with a blend of adoring nostalgia and optimistic forward- thinking\, Emo Nite remains an authentic space to celebrate diversity\, experience passionate catharsis\, and champion authentic expression. Emo Nite isn’t a band or a DJ crew. It’s an idea\, one as simple as the urge to throw a party for a beloved style of music. Often imitated but never truly duplicated\, Emo Nite’s founders and supporters are fond of saying\, “If you don’t see the grave\, it ain’t our rave.” \n“There’s a lot of ownership from our community of the event itself and the Emo Nite brand\,” Petracca says. “It’s about breaking down that barrier of ‘Look at me\, it’s all about me.’ No\, it’s about us\, together\, in this room. It belongs to every single person that comes through the door.”\nThe co-founders continue to look ahead. “Emo Nite definitely impacted culture\,” Freed notes. “But we have no plans to stop changing the way we view the evolution and expansion of the genre.”

SUMMARY:Coco Montoya - in honor of DJ Arthur Balinger
DESCRIPTION:Though he grew up a drummer raised on rock & roll\, Coco Montoya is an outstanding blues-rock guitarist. Over a five-decade-plus career he has proven an influential\, charting\, award-winning technician\, and songwriter. He established his reputation during the 1990s playing in the bands of Albert Collins and John Mayall. Known for a biting tone melding raucous\, melodic Chicago blues and vintage R&B with soulful vocals\, his left-handed playing style brings funky Latin rhythms\, roots rock\, and jazz into his approach to electric blues. His Silvertone solo debut\, Gotta Mind to Travel from 1995\, won the W.C. Handy award for “Best New Artist.” 1996’s Ya Think I’d Know Better\, made the blues Top Ten. After signing with Alligator Records in 2000\, 2002’s Can’t Look Back and 2007’s Dirty Deal and 2019’s Coming in Hot also charted inside the blues Top Five. In 2023 Montoya returned to studio recording with Writing on the Wall. \nBorn Henry Montoya in Santa Monica\, California in 1951\, his childhood home was a treasure trove of music thanks to an enormous family record collection curated equally by his father and siblings. They listened to everything from big-band records to rock & roll and doo wop singles that flooded AM radio. During the early ’60s\, English musicians including John Mayall and Eric Clapton were redeveloping the electric blues style based on hearing American bluesmen such as Muddy Waters\, Howlin’ Wolf\, and Sonny Boy Williamson. Montoya credits hearing Clapton play Freddie King‘s “Hideaway” as his initiation to electric blues. As a teen\, he taught himself the guitar to voice feelings he couldn’t verbalize. It was his second instrument — the first was a drum kit. Montoya played in local rock bands and established a rep as a rock-solid player. In 1969 he attended a concert to see Iron Butterfly and Creedence Clearwater. Between sets\, Albert King performed. Montoya witnessed him playing “Watermelon Man\,” and it changed his life: he later said it was the first time he heard music that came straight from the heart. \nIn the ’70s\, Texas guitar slinger Albert Collins was booked to play a matinee at a small club in Culver City that Montoya had played the previous night. The club owner gave Collins permission to use his drums. Montoya arrived to pick up his gear and noticed someone had been playing his kit. He was irritated with the club owner. After being informed of this\, Collins called him at the club; he was as gracious as he was apologetic. Montoya caught his gig and later told an interviewer “…it just tore my head off. The thing that I had seen and felt with Albert King came pouring back on me when I saw Albert Collins.” \nA few months later\, Collins needed a drummer for a tour of the American Northwest. He remembered Montoya and called him. During the tour\, the guitarist took his young charge under his wing\, teaching him about blues music and road life. Montoya remained with Collins‘ band for five years. During that period\, the younger man began doubling on guitar. Collins went out of his way to teach him while killing time in hotel rooms. The elder man would have Montoya play along to changes and develop leads organically\, asking him not to think\, but feel his way through the music. The pair became so close he referred to Montoya as his “son.” After leaving the band\, the pair remained close until the older man’s death from cancer in 1993. \nMontoya was back in the small-time nightclub business\, by the early ’80s bartending and playing guitar with regional bands. During a show he discovered that John Mayall was in the audience celebrating his birthday. In tribute\, Montoya launched into a cover of Otis Rush‘s “All Your Love (I Miss Loving).” Impressed\, Mayall left the club with a soundboard tape of Montoya’s performance. When he decided to re-form the Bluesbreakers after a 16-year hiatus\, he called Montoya. Despite the enormous pressure of filling a spot held previously by Clapton and Peter Green\, Montoya grabbed the opportunity. Mayall had not released an album in five years\, but the 1985 revival set Behind the Iron Curtain proved the British bluesman’s continued viability\, thanks in large part to the fiery axe work of Montoya. He remained with the Bluesbreakers for a decade before striking out on his own. Montoya made his leader debut with the 1995 Gotta Mind to Travel for Silvertone in the U.K. and Blind Pig in the U.S. It featured guest spots from Collins (his final recorded performance)\, Mayall\, Debbie Davies\, and Al Kooper\, and garnered an award in the Best New Blues Artist category at the following year’s W.C. Handy Awards. After that\, Montoya became not only a popular artist among blues fans\, critics\, and radio programmers\, but a mainstay and draw on the scene. He released two more albums for Blind Pig\, 1996’s Ya’ Think I’d Know Better\, and 1997’s Just Let Go (both charted) before signing to Chicago’s Alligator Records for Suspicion in 2000; it reached number ten. Montoya’s profile expanded exponentially as his road band toured the globe for more than a year. Upon returning\, he recorded 2002’s Can’t Look Back; it reached number two as the band hit the road for more than three years. After a long break he hit the touring circuit again and in late 2006\, he re-entered the recording studio\, emerging with Dirty Deal in 2007; it peaked at number two. As his road presence increased\, he began headlining European and Asian music festivals. To that end he signed a European deal with Germany’s Ruf Records issuing 2010’s I Want It All Back (number four) and his first live offering\, the double-length Songs from the Road in 2014 (number 15)\, promoting it with a U.S. tour of festivals and clubs. Montoya returned to Alligator for 2017’s Hard Truth\, which climbed to number five on the blues charts. After a short tour of festival sheds\, Montoya returned to the studio to emerge with Coming in Hot in August of 2019. The set included songs by the teams of Montoya and Dave Steen as well as Tom Hambridge and Richard Fleming. It also included tunes by Warren Haynes\, Frankie Miller\, Jeff Paris\, and Collins. The guitarist’s backing band included bassists Bob Glaub and Mike Mennell\, keyboardist Mike Finnigan\, rhythm guitarists Billy Watts and Johnny Lee Schell\, and drummer Tony Braunagel\, who produced the album. \nFollowing tours of festivals in the U.S. and Europe\, Montoya\, like every other traveling performer\, was sidelined by the COVID-19 pandemic. He resumed touring in 2021\, and in early 2023 entered Jeff’s Garage\, keyboardist and co-producer (with Braunagel) Jeff Paris’s studio with clutch of songs — including five originals — and a quartet that included Paris\, bassist Nathan Brown\, and drummer Rena Beavers\, as well as a handful of guests that included Braunagel playing drums selectively\, and alternating guitarists Lee Roy Parnell\, Ronnie Baker Brooks\, and Dave Steen (who also contributed two songs to the set). Titled Writing on the Wall\, it appeared in September as his sixth outing for Alligator. ~ Thom Jurek\, Rovi
