SUMMARY:The Dip
DESCRIPTION:The Dip is a Seattle-based Rhythm and Blues band that is known for its poignant songwriting\, detailed arrangements\, and vintage sound. Featuring a three-piece horn section\, the group’s music harkens back to earlier soul and funk influences while hinting at the jazz foundations that brought the band’s members together. Along with singer and guitarist Tom Eddy\, bassist Mark Hunter and drummer Jarred Katz are equally at home in a tight-pocketed groove as they are spacious free-improvisation. Trumpet player Brennan Carter joined by saxophonists Evan Smith and Levi Gillis serve as the band’s melodic counterpoint\, playing off Eddy’s vocals to create a distinct sonic character that has drawn in millions of listeners to date. \n‘Love Direction’\, the follow-up to 2022’s ‘Sticking With It’ (which landed at #1 on the Billboard Current R&B Albums Chart) is the band’s fourth full-length studio album and second for Dualtone Records\, due out 7/12/24. This new record is the sound of the band taking their next step forward. The interplay of old and new is on full display throughout the album; and\, the group augments their classic sound with an expanded instrumentation throughout. Eddy says of the album’s inspiration: “As you get further along in a relationship\, sometimes you lose your way. The things that came easily in the beginning get hard. The love is still there\, it’s just that people and life are complicated. Sometimes you don’t have the tools in the toolbox to figure out what you need to do to support the other person\, so you have to get help and ask for directions.” \nStill\, despite the title\, this latest record isn’t a collection of straightforward love songs\, but an investigation into the different angles and challenges that relationships can bring. Expanding on the album’s theme\, Eddy further notes “These aren’t ‘Love Songs’ in the most obvious sense. They deal with the middle stages\, the hinterlands of love and life together – figuring someone out and what they need\, learning how to communicate\, and examining your own faults. We set out to write music that felt more grown\, a little wiser. The songs that emerged all pointed in the Love Direction.” \nTheir last album cycle saw the band headline and sell-out shows at iconic venues across the country. They have also had the opportunity to support new friends like Lake Street Dive and The Black Pumas\, while also appearing at major festivals including Bonnaroo and Outside Lands. No strangers to the road\, this new album represents a reflection on the band’s touring gravitas as well as the promise of a new destination appearing on the horizon. Directions now in hand\, The Dip is looking forward to furthering this exploration into all matters of the heart by bringing this expansive and detailed new recording to life in their next travels together. \n\n \n\nParlor Greens\nPerhaps one of the most exciting and anticipated projects in the world of heavy instrumental music is Parlor Greens\, a fresh organ trio on Colemine Records! You could say that Parlor Greens are greater than the sum of their parts…however\, the individual parts are simply stellar on their own. Tim Carman (GA-20) on drums\, Jimmy James (True Loves\, formerly Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio) on guitar\, and Adam Scone (Scone Cash Players\, The Sugarman 3) on organ. \nScone is perhaps the most tasteful living organist on planet Earth (and beyond) and to watch him play is to truly watch a master at work. He bends the organ to his will like a true mastercraftsman. He’s a veteran of the soul revival scene\, having played on many Daptone recording sessions since their inception\, but also has learned from some of the legends of soul jazz: Melvin Sparks and The Turbanator himself Dr. Lonnie Smith. Jimmy James needs no introduction to many as he’s been seen all over the world performing with instrumental groups The True Loves and the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio. Perhaps the most dangerous right hand in all of soul music\, his signature funky approach can be identified by even the most novice of music fans\, a feat most musicians could only dream of. Tim Carman. The backbone. The pocket. Having cut his teeth touring the world with blues group GA-20\, Carman’s expertise in the world of blues shuffles might make him an unlikely candidate to lay the foundation for the funky Parlor Greens\, but this debut LP shows otherwise. Steady\, heavy pockets and as funky as they come. \nParlor Greens started off as an idea before it even had a name. Carman had been chatting with Colemine label boss Terry Cole about their shared love for organ combo records of yesterday on labels like Blue Note and Prestige. Cole said he’d love to have an organ trio be the first project at the label’s new studio\, Portage Lounge\, located in Loveland\, Ohio. So when Carman tapped James and Scone for the session\, the stage was set. Carman and Cole had started work a day early to dial in the drum sound\, so when the rest of this murderer’s row arrived they hit the ground running. It was instant chemistry. Within the first ten minutes of everyone plugging in\, a song was written and recorded\, “West Memphis”. And over the next three days\, these three maestros conducted a beautiful and soulful symphony straight to tape. As natural and fun as three old friends getting together after a long absence\, only this was the first time they had written and performed together. True magic. \nSo this is the result of that session. Eleven cuts. Ten originals. Two sides. All killer\, no filler. Straight to the old reliable Tascam 388 tape machine\, mixed up nice and dirty for your enjoyment. Parlor Greens are proud to present their debut long player\, In Green / We Dream. \n____________________________________________________________________________________\nDIGITAL SINGLES \nWest Memphis –\nIt’s not often the start of a new project or band is explicitly documented\, but in the case of Parlor Greens it absolutely is. “West Memphis” is the first thing that Jimmy James (True Loves)\, Adam Scone (Scone Cash Players / Sugarman 3)\, and Tim Carman (GA-20\, Tim Carman Trio) played when they entered the Colemine studio in Loveland\, OH. What started as a jam on a guitar riff from Jimmy quickly evolved into a melody from him\, a blistering organ stab from Scone\, and Tim fell into a laid back boogaloo beat. And so in real time\, Parlor Greens was born. Enjoy this funky instrumental slab from these veterans of the scene at peak prowess on their respective instruments. \nIn Green We Dream\nFirst single announcing Parlor Greens’ debut LP\, In Green / We Dream. \nThe title track from the debut LP by Parlor Greens\, Colemine’s newest instrumental juggernaut! “In Green We Dream” really serves as a perfect sonic cross section of the record. A memorable and catchy melody\, great concise solos from both organ and guitar\, a drum break\, and some tight little hits at the end put a bow on this stellar debut album. .This is the first of 3 forthcoming LPs on Colemine by Parlor Greens\, who are already receiving support at radio from BBC\, KEXP\, and KCRW. Targeting all things in the funky and instrumental spaces. \nSugar Maple –\nSecond single from Colemine’s newest instrumental juggernaut\, Parlor Greens! “Sugar Maple” showcases gritty production on this driving\, soulful waltz from the trio. The organ takes the lead with Jimmy James on guitar complimenting beautifully on tremolo guitar. Whimsical\, soulful vibes for days on this one. [Press/radio goes here]. Targeting all things on the funkier side of jazz. \nDriptorch –\nThe focus track of Parlor Greens’ debut LP\, In Green / We Dream\, a new highly anticipated project from heavyweights (Jimmy James\, Adam Scone\, Tim Carman) of the instrumental funk/jazz scene. Gritty\, classic sounding organ trio funk is the order of the day. Targeting all things in the funky and instrumental spaces.

SUMMARY:Rilo Kiley
DESCRIPTION:After a long absence\, Rilo Kiley—Jenny Lewis\, Blake Sennett\, Jason Boesel\, and Pierre “Duke” de Reeder—are back\, with arms outstretched. \nOver the years\, a reunion “felt like a possibility\, but it was never the right time\,” explains Boesel. Eventually\, “the emotional component and the interpersonal communication component all arrived into this place where it had a straight shot at reality.” \n“Planning this reunion over these past months has been like reconnecting with family. We haven’t missed a beat\,” says De Reeder. “The stakes are only to have a good time\, to revel in this nostalgia.  Getting to revisit and celebrate the music from that special time of our lives while experiencing it alongside a lot of people that lived it with us back when\, and new folks alike.” \n“It couldn’t have happened any sooner\,” says Lewis. “It feels like now is the time to share that joy and love with each other and with everyone else.” \n“For some people\, Rilo Kiley evokes a formative\, emotional time in life\, when you were maybe grasping for your place in the universe. We were too\,” says Sennett. “Reconnecting with those people is paramount to anything else.” \n“It’s going to be wonderful for us\, like going back to the purest version of yourself\, that early ’20s place where everything is possible\,” says Lewis. “You’re in a van and Jason’s got the map\, Pierre is behind the wheel\, and I’m on the shitty acoustic guitar in the bench seat working out a new song with Blake. I don’t think it’s ever been as good as that\, when it was just us against the world.” \n— \nRilo Kiley was born from hunger\, from the insatiable desire to write one’s own story. The band’s origins can be traced back to Los Angeles in the late 1990s\, when Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett discovered a shared songwriting obsession and began performing together. After some starts and stops\, a band was formed with  Pierre “Duke” de Reeder playing bass. They called themselves Rilo Kiley\, borrowing a name that came to Sennett in a dream. \nFollowing a promising EP\, Rilo Kiley got to work on their debut\, 2001’s Take Offs and Landings. Self-recorded at home\, the scrappy album offered a mix of Pacific Northwest-inspired indie rock and emo-adjacent angst\, with a number of hushed and heartfelt tracks led by Sennett. Though their sound would evolve with time\, Take Offs introduced many of the qualities that would define Rilo Kiley: clever and raw observations about life and death; evocative melodies that infuse deeper shades of meaning; and seriously great storytelling. \nIf Take Offs was a self-assured launchpad\, 2002’s The Execution of All Things was a triumphant arrival. For their second record\, Rilo Kiley headed to Nebraska to record with Bright Eyes’ Mike Mogis alongside new drummer Jason Boesel. Here\, Lewis truly becomes a generational songwriter\, spinning interior mysteries regarding romance\, depression\, trauma\, hope\, and isolation into cathartic revelations. \nThe title of their third album\, 2004’s More Adventurous\, aptly reflects the band’s increasingly  ambitious compositions. It was also a poetic reference to perseverance in the face of heartbreak\, a reminder that the things that make you weep don’t have to make you weak. This sentiment guides Lewis as she addresses the failings of institutions large and small\, from politics to marriage to religious morality. \nBy that time\, Rilo Kiley was a beloved presence in certain corners of pop culture. The bandmates’ explored other musical outlets but reunited for 2007’s Under the Blacklight\, a groovy\, ’80s-tinged examination of humanity’s seedy underbelly. In 2013\, they shared Rkives\, a compilation of leftover treasures pulled from old cassette tapes and hard drives. In 2020\, Rilo Kiley reissued their 1999 The Initial Friend EP. \n\n \n\nMorgan Nagler\nWhen you hear Morgan Nagler’s debut collection of songs under her own name\, you’ll probably wonder how she seemingly appeared out of nowhere with such jaw-dropping melodies\, lyrics that cut right to the heart\, and her distinctively beautiful\, plaintive howl. The thing is\, she’s been hiding in plain sight for a minute now\, waiting for the perfect moment to emerge from band names and behind-the-scenes co-writes with her truest musical statement yet. \nWith her bands Whispertown and Supermoon\, and through Grammy-nominated collaborations with Phoebe Bridgers\, Haim and Madi Diaz\, the Los Angeles singer-songwriter has spent years honing her ability to craft tunes that are both heartbreaking and clever at the same time. It’s a gift that has made her a hugely in-demand co-writer – someone an artist will call in when they really want to get to the core of a feeling. \nEarlier this year\, reeling from a devastating break-up and turning to her guitar to sing her grief\, Nagler began amassing a group of songs that instantly felt like the beginning of something important. It was time to share her stories\, as herself. \n“Cradle The Pain” is a preview of Nagler’s next chapter. Produced by King Tuff’s Kyle Thomas and mixed by Alex Farrar (Wednesday\, MJ Lenderman\, Snail Mail)\, the song displays her poetic acumen\, atop an instantly memorable melody. “I originally wrote this song as sort of a letter to one of my dear friends\,” Nagler explains. “It’s funny how it’s often easier to cut to the core of truth when the message is disguised as being for somebody else. It has since taken on many new and personal meanings to me\, currently serving as more of a mantra. I think we inherently know it’s all in our own hands\, but the allure of not being accountable allows us to romanticize falling victim to the whims of fate. I am constantly needing the reminder that perspective truly is the key to life\, and only we contain our own salvations. We have to just keep getting back on the saddle again and again. Cradle the pain\, it’s all the same\, it’s what you make of it.” The track also features a stellar backing band including both Thomas and Meg Duffy (Hand Habits) on guitar\, and Josh Adams (Cat Power\, Weyes Blood & Tim Heidecker) on drums. \nNagler will be sharing more music next year\, and is putting finishing touches on an album. “This song is the first of a body of work I consider closest to home\,” she says. After spending my childhood as an actor taking on alternate personalities\, my young adult days writing and touring in various indie projects\, and the last several years writing with and for other artists\, I’ve compiled a personal collection of songs alongside my producer and co-writer Kyle Thomas. They will be released under my name for the first time\, which is appropriate as I feel pretty raw and more like myself than ever. So in many ways\, regardless of a lifetime spent in the trenches of creativity\, this feels like a debut.”

SUMMARY:Gang of Four
DESCRIPTION:“2025 will be the 45th anniversary of the release of ‘Entertainment!‘ in the US\, and will be our final year as a band. It’s been wonderful\, but all things must end. We want to go out with a bang and celebrate with our fans and friends. So\, on what will be our last US tour\, we’ll play two sets at each show: ‘Entertainment!” from start to finish in the first\, and the best of the rest in the second. Come and join in\, it’ll be a blast!” \n\n \n\nDeep Heaven\nDeep Heaven blurs the line between machine precision and human urgency. Rooted in post-punk and dream pop\, they remain stubbornly electronic—pushing hardware synths and drum machines to their limits\, layering them with bursts of guitar and lyrical confessions. \nThe duo began sketching out ideas for a project that would merge Max Modeen’s goth-leaning darkwave work (Enigma Machine) with Joseph Hoisington’s folk rock background—reimagined through a futuristic lens inspired by Factory Records. They bonded over a shared love of artists like New Order\, Echo & the Bunnymen\, and more recent acts like Nation of Language and Dummy.

SUMMARY:Daniel Rodriguez\, Jesse Blake Rundle
DESCRIPTION:Daniel Rodriguez\n\n \n\nWhether it was personal heartbreak or the seismic shift in his daily life when exiting his longtime band\, Elephant Revival\, Daniel Rodriguez’s latest album\, Harboring Pearls\, is a snapshot of a singer-songwriter simply trying to navigate the choppy waters of existence to the best of his ability. \n“I preserved my own sanity. I preserved my own integrity\,” Rodriguez says. “There’s something about not being comfortable\, knowing my integrity and ethics\, knowing my path and where I’m headed — I’m fueled by not choosing to be comfortable.” \nCaptured by producer David Baron at his Sun Mountain\, situated atop a ridge amid the ancient Catskill Mountains of Woodstock\, New York\, Harboring Pearls was co-produced by Wesley Schultz\, lead singer for indie-folk juggernaut The Lumineers. \n“Now? It’s just me and the storm\,” Rodriguez says. “All the chips are in on this one piece of art. Am I crazy? Do I trust myself? What I am doing? It’s this lingering feeling that I have no idea where it’s headed\, but I need to go wherever it’s headed.” \nThat internal\, more so existential quest of self\, of purpose and pursuit\, lies at the core of Harboring Pearls. Numbers like of “El Dorado\,” “Anything and Everything” and “Graduation” paint vivid indie-folk pictures of Rodriguez’s journey unfolding in real time. \n“It’s about transcendence\, and that’s been such a wild process\,” Rodriguez says. “There’s been this pressure cooking with the songs. A lot of coal being compressing into diamonds.” \nAnd what resulted was this steadfast platform of trust and radiance offered by Schultz\, one where Rodriguez felt comfortable standing on\, the culmination of those sessions being this cultivation of truth and sacrifice the lies within each selection of Harboring Pearls. \n“You’re on your own and these are your pearls\,” Rodriguez says of this latest batch of tunes. “And you’ve been harboring them for so long. It’s time to pass them out.” \n\n\nSocial Links\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJesse Blake Rundle

SUMMARY:Matisyahu\, Electric Kif
DESCRIPTION:Matisyahu\n\n \n\nSince first emerging on the international stage in 2005\, Matisyahu has established a reputation for following his muse—from the stripped-down roots reggae of the gold-certified Live at Stubb’s to the trippy ministrations of Youth to the polished pop eclecticism of Light. Then\, in 2010\, he returned to the venerable Austin venue that introduced him for Live at Stubb’s II\, demonstrating that all those travels had somehow only strengthened his connection to his musical bedrock. It was a whirlwind half-decade journey\, one that earned Matisyahu a place in pop culture at large. \n  \nAnd it was only the beginning. \n  \nNow based with his family in Los Angeles\, Matisyahu blasts off yet again with Spark Seeker\, a bold new studio album that finds the one-of-a-kind vocalist and songwriter exploring uncharted territory with help from an expansive cast of collaborators. “My musical tastes are all over the board\,” he says in reference to a record that mixes ancient traditional sounds with futuristic electro beats\, rapping with singing\, songs of the spirit with songs of the body. “And\, besides\, my music has never been about the outer garment. It’s about searching out inspiration wherever it lies. This album is about seeking that spark within.” \n  \nOuter garments\, of course\, long defined Matisyahu in the eyes of many. “I was the Hasidic reggae superstar\,” he says with a knowing laugh. So when Matisyahu took to Twitter late last year to post a picture of himself with his new look\, he did it with a certain amount of relief. “It just felt good to sort of restart everything\,” he says\, adding that the transformation actualized one of the central themes of Spark Seeker: the impermanence of the physical form. “The spark seeker digs for truth and meaning and is willing to let go of everything to find it. He’s honest and authentic with himself and lives life from the inside out. He creates music from the depths and doesn’t worry about what category it or he fits into.” \n“We live in a world where people tend to think in extremes and categorize with ultimate statements\,” Matisyahu says. “While it’s true that at one point it would’ve been pretty accurate to describe me as Hasidic reggae\, for most of my career my music has been a blend\, a mixture.” \nFor Spark Seeker—not just a collection of random tracks\, but a complete piece of work made with one producer—Matisyahu spent a year recording with Koool Kojak (Nicki Minaj\, Travis Barker\, Ke$ha) at the latter’s home studio in L.A. Then the pair went toIsrael with an open slate. “We booked a studio there and invited various friends and musicians—including Zohar Fresco\, Daniel Zamir\, Ravid Kahalani and rapper Shyne—to come and simply play music\,” Matisyahu says. “We began to blend all of this live instrumentation to create a unique record\, made by multi-faceted human beings who have many sides and many sources of inspiration.” \nThe result reflects that wide array of voices and experiences. In the hard-hitting “Warrior” Matisyahu describes feelings of frustration and desperation\, while lead single “Sunshine” rides what might be the most uplifting groove in his catalog; elsewhere\, “Searchin’” pairs a gritty digital-dancehall beat with chanted lyrics and “I Believe in Love” exemplifies the album’s deep melodic streak. Throughout Spark Seeker you can hear Matisyahu embodying the album’s title—and embracing its humble promise. The album has a depth to it as well as a lightness\, which alludes to the most essential theme of the record–that everything in life\, especially music\, exists in mixtures and blends.  “Things are not as black and white as we would like to think.  Not everything can be oversimplified\,” says Matisyahu. \n“This is definitely pushing the boundaries of what I’ve done before\,” he acknowledges. “It’s a new kind of record for me.” At this point we’d expect nothing less.

SUMMARY:Turnover
DESCRIPTION:The title track of the band’s new album\, Myself in the Way\, speaks to this mindset. “I can’t put myself in the way of love again\,” sings Getz\, “I promise I’m going to go all the way with you\,” is specifically about Getz getting engaged to his longtime partner\, but applies to the general outlook he had toward life in lockdown. “I was living in Sebastopol\, California at the time and felt like I truly lived there for the first time since I wasn’t leaving for tour. I was able to go meditate at the Zen Buddhist dojo down the road\, run and bike around the hills in Sonoma county\, learn about plants and gardening\, take some Spanish and arboriculture classes\, and get involved with the volunteer fire department. Just do a bunch of new things to challenge and inspire me in a natural way.” \nTurnover’s other members also used the time to deepen interests they hadn’t been able to fully explore before covid. Bass player Dan Dempsey was in New York City and responded to lockdown by spending more time practicing his visual art in drawing and painting. He painted the album’s cover during this period and developed a style that has become a central theme for the band in its current iteration. Drummer Casey Getz found work at a Virginia Beach state park as touring continued to be postponed. He was in search of and inspired by having a work-life balance different than he’d experienced since he was younger. Through this\, he was able to nurture current relationships more and find new ones\, something touring made much more difficult. This led to Casey playing drums with a group of longtime friends in Virginia Beach and further developing his drumming style – adding a new prowess for fluidity and improvisation through lengthy jam sessions with the group. Guitarist Nick Rayfield was focused on sharpening his guitar and piano playing and was able to devote energy to skateboarding and his retail business more than he had been able to for the last few years. This was also the band’s first album with Rayfield making songwriting contributions after touring with them for years as a live member\, adding a new creative element to the songs. \nOver 18 months Turnover weaved these individual experiences into a collective work\, recording the LP over two sessions with longtime collaborator Will Yip at Studio 4. Austin is credited\, for the first time\, as co-producer. \n“I had specific ideas for sound design on this album. I knew a lot of sounds I wanted to hear and use. We wanted everything to be able to be heard and have its own place. I was inspired by the way Magical Mystery Tour and Dark Side of the Moon sounded. We decided to go a lot wider with it and utilize panning and stereo more than we had in the past\, while also wanting it to sound tighter and smaller than some of our earlier records. We were inspired by drum and bass sounds from Chic and Quincy Jones records from the 70s\, so we put the drums in the control room to get them to sound smaller. We used an active pickup bass and a jazz bass to get that percussive sound from the bass so the low end wasn’t as rumbling and subby. We let the synths share some of that low end that the drums and bass gave up. Quincy’s approach to arrangements were a huge inspiration in this record as well. The horn and string lines I wanted to sound like classic era disco\, mixed with modern synth and vocal sounds. I had been experimenting with my own vocal styles a lot and utilized autotune and vocoder on this album almost as instruments on certain songs as a stylistic choice.” \nThe band has always been DIY\, but post pandemic they have taken that to a different level. They appreciate more than ever how lucky they are to get to be together and have fun creating things with their friends. They have found that they are usually best suited for executing their own vision\, not only musically\, but with all its accompaniments as well. For this album they made all their own videos in collaboration with friends and using Dempsey’s drawings and paintings. \nChange is authentic and true to Turnover as a band and as individuals. Chart a course through their discography and find a band continually reinventing themselves with a unique artistic ambition. Myself In The Way arrives finding Turnover doing the same within their own persons\, pushing the band into new and exciting parallel depths of expression. \n\n \n\nBalance and Composure\nwith you in spirit\, the fourth Balance and Composure LP\, is an arresting\, atmospheric collection of melodic post-punk and towering rock. Due out October 4 on long-time collaborator and Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip’s Memory Music\, it’s the band’s first LP in eight years\, and a thrilling full-length comeback after their four-year hiatus. It thunders and stirs\, dipping between beautiful\, crystalline arrangements and punishing\, earth-shaking climaxes; in between all\, a gripping\, near-physical tension crackles and growls and grooves\, waiting to rip open. \nIt’s an intensely self-reflective record for vocalist and guitarist Jon Simmons\, an uprooting and examination of the supports on which a life is built. Preemptive grief\, wrestling with god and faith\, familial responsibility\, familial mortality—these are the things Simmons was carrying while writing this material. They’re also things he was trying\, for better and worse\, to avoid—hence the record’s title. \nwith you in spirit feels like the work of songwriters reaching new heights\, exploring new depths. Sometimes\, the record itself feels like a band grappling with its own avoidance\, its own mortality\, and deciding to face these things the only way they know how. Balance and Composure are with us in spirit\, yes\, but in the flesh\, too\, for now. \n\n\n \n\nHorse Jumper of Love\nHorse Jumper of Love thrive on patient and uncompromising songs. Thanks to frontman Dimitri Giannopoulos’ evocative lyrics and arrangements that suddenly turn from delicate to blistering\, their music is full of intensity. While the Boston trio\, which also includes bassist John Margaris and drummer James Doran\, has stretched the fringes of indie\, their latest is their most immediate yet. Out August 16 via Run For Cover Records\, Disaster Trick tackles self-destructiveness with healing and heart. \nWhere Horse Jumper of Love’s last release 2023’s Heartbreak Rules excelled with quiet\, bare-bones songwriting\, Disaster Trick cranks up the volume while keeping the no-frills intimacy of the band’s catalog. Recorded at Asheville\, North Carolina’s Drop of Sun Studios with producer Alex Farrar (Wednesday\, Indigo De Souza)\, the recordings soar with searing guitars and an unshakeable rhythm section. “I tried the quiet thing on the last album and I realized there’s definitely two parts of me: I like really heavy music\, and I like really gentle music\,” says Giannopoulos. “The two albums I listened to the most while we were in the studio were Leonard Cohen’s Songs From a Room and Hum’s Downward is Heavenward.” This contrast between quiet and loud exists throughout Disaster Trick but it’s animated by stark emotion and straightforward\, timeless songwriting. \nDisaster Trick feels like a creative reset. It’s also Horse Jumper of Love distilled to their purest essence\, which is partly due to Giannopoulos’ recent sobriety. “This was the first album I’ve ever done where I went into it with a very clear mind\,” he says. “In the past\, we would just show up at a studio\, drink\, and record. Here\, everything felt purposeful.” With newfound energy\, the band revisited old\, unfinished material like “Gates of Heaven\,” which dates back nearly a decade. Originally written during a period Giannopoulos describes as full of immaturity\, he sings\, “I am late to work again / I’m always missing something / when I walk out the door.” By focusing on a mundane moment\, he highlights how self-defeating behaviors can linger. \nFor the band\, the album marked an opportunity to strip down their songwriting to the essentials: urgent\, accessible arrangements full of catharsis. “This album helped me realize that a lot of the time\, simplicity is the answer\,” says Giannopolous. Lead single “Wink\,” captures this perfectly. When Giannopoulos sings over hushed guitars\, “And your arms have never looked / More empty than they do from here\,” his delivery exudes a remarkable earnestness. As the track hits a boiling point in its thunderous chorus\, it’s disarmingly raw. Other songs like “Today’s Iconoclast” are imbued with wry humor\, referencing both “the Amazon Basics Bible” and playing “fuck\, marry\, kill” in consecutive verses. Whatever the mood\, Giannopoulos’ lyrical directness anchors Disaster Trick. \nWhile in Asheville\, the band enlisted collaborations from Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman and MJ Lenderman as well as Squirrel Flower’s Ella Williams. Opening track “Snow Angel” kicks off with a growling\, shoegaze-tinged guitar riff. It’s a heavy song that’s grounded by wistfulness. “Would you pull me a feather / From your pillow – I want to dream like you\,” sings Giannopoulos. Throughout\, Disaster Trick navigates uncomfortable\, dark thoughts with a subtle grace. On the downtempo and compelling “Word\,” Giannopoulos finds lightness in relationship malaise: “Last night we had a fight / You blamed it on the moon / But that’s not very fair to the moon.” \nDisaster Trick is a dark record but there’s a glimmer of hope throughout. As he sings on “Death Spiral\,” “I know it sounds dramatic / But I must describe / The way that it felt.” This gets to the core of the album: looking back on mistakes with the grace and clarity that comes from growing up. “A lot of the songs came out of this point where things in my life were going well but I couldn’t accept it\,” says Giannopoulos. “I was being a brat. Disaster Trick is me cleaning up my act and reflecting on it.”

SUMMARY:The Bouncing Souls
DESCRIPTION:The Bouncing Souls are something of a punk rock institution. The band have been consistently churning out their beloved brand of anthemic punk since 1989\, and have earned an intensely loyal fanbase with tireless touring and an unrelenting love of making music. As the band approached the creation of their tenth full length\, they sought to make a record that captured the spirit of their earlier work\, while incorporating who they are today. That record is Simplicity and its 13 tracks of undeniably infectious punk rock prove that The Bouncing Souls have a lot more to say. \nIn making Simplicity\, The Bouncing Souls set out to write songs that\, first and foremost\, would translate into the live environment. With over 20 years worth of anthems under their collective belt\, it’s a challenge to write a setlist that incorporates newer material\, but Simplicity’s many standouts are more than up to the task. Next\, the band enlisted the help of producer John Seymour\, who manned the mixing boards for their fan favorite LPs How ISpent My Summer Vacation and Anchors Aweigh\, to record the album with all of the raw energy of the live performance. The production of Simplicity perfectly embodies the band’s bite and power\, the driving guitars\, prominent bass\, rock-solid drums\, and soaring vocals all cutting through with no unneeded studio shine. From speedy hardcore-influenced ragers\, to comparatively tender punk ballads\, Simplicity’s dynamics show every side of The Bouncing Souls. \nOn Simplicity\, The Bouncing Souls do what so few long-running bands are able to accomplish: they utilize all of the skills and lessons that come from over 20 years of making music\, while still capturing the reckless spontaneity of their past work. That delicate balance can only be found if there’s a sincerity in the songs that comes from genuine love of playing music together\, and The Bouncing Souls have that in spades. \n\n \n\nH2O\nFormed in 1994 by Sick of It All roadie Toby Morse\, H2O was one of the more prominent bands in the second wave of straight-edge hardcore. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s\, the band toured relentlessly\, becoming synonymous with the East Coast hardcore sound that encapsulated the gritty attitude of New York City in melodic riffs\, principled lyrics\, and rushing tempos. The band had a brief dalliance with major label MCA\, releasing 2001’s Go and 2002’s All We Want EP with the major before returning to their indie roots with 2008’s Nothing to Prove. \nNew York City hardcore band H2O began as a group of friends headed by Sick of It All roadie Toby Morse\, who would perform a song called “My Love Is Real” at shows where there was no opening act. Crowd response encouraged the band to give music a serious try\, and their initial membership featured Morse (vocals)\, Rusty Pistachio (guitar)\, Eric Rice (bass)\, and Max Capshaw (drums). H2O’s ceaseless touring quickly earned them a following along the East Coast\, their fan base growing as the band opened bigger shows early in their career for acts like Rancid and No Doubt. After a European tour in 1995\, Capshaw left the band\, and ex-Outcrowd members Todd Morse (guitar; Toby’s brother) and Todd Friend (drums) joined. H2O opened for such bands as the Mighty Mighty Bosstones\, Quicksand and CIV\, and their self-titled debut was released in 1996. Their second album\, Thicker Than Water\, was issued by Epitaph in 1997; it featured new bassist Adam Blake (ex-Shelter). F.T.T.W.\, the band’s third album\, was released in 1999. Two years later\, the band signed to MCA and issued Go!\, followed closely by the All We Want EP\, which appeared in fall 2002. Around this time the band also turned some heads with their cover of Ice Cube‘s ubiquitous hit “It Was a Good Day.” Throughout the band’s tenure\, touring and connecting with fans through live performance was one of the constants of their appeal. H2O’s iconic status in hardcore circles was owed largely to their willingness to bring their show to the fans\, and they were early participants in different package tours like Warped Tour. They toured nonstop during their brief involvement with MCA\, but didn’t release new music until 2008’s Nothing to Prove\, which was put out by indie label Bridge 9 Records. \nReleased in 2011\, the aptly named Don’t Forget Your Roots saw H2O covering some of the bands that influenced them over the years\, while 2015’s Use Your Voice found them celebrating their 20th anniversary with an all new set of originals. Following the album’s release\, more touring ensued\, with Todd Morse leaving the band for a time but ultimately returning. Around 2017\, an announcement was made that Use Your Voice would be the final studio album from H2O\, but in what capacity the band would exist from that point on was unclear. Later that year\, the band’s first demos from 1994 were widely released on Bridge 9 Records. The six songs had previously only been available as a self-released demo cassette in the band’s early days and on a two-song EP\, but were remastered and released as The Don Fury Demo Session. Fury\, still active in recording 20 some years later\, remastered the archival demos himself. ~ Steve Huey\, Rovi \n\n\n \n\nAdolescents\n• THE ADOLESCENTS • Adolescents are a punk band hailing from Fullerton\, California\, United States who formed in 1980. Since their debut they have become one of the most influential punk bands of their time\, providing the blueprint for skate-punk and hardcore bands in their wake from Blink-182 to Pennywise. Formed by vocalist Tony Cadena and bass player Steve Soto in late 1979\, the assorted line-ups of Adolescents have featured a veritable who’s who of players from the biggest names of the California punk scene. Soto himself cut his teeth performing in Agent Orange and in Adolescents’ very first line-up\, their guitarist Frank Agnew was late of Social Distortion. Even though the band couldn’t quite keep a steady rhythm section throughout their first year\, they still managed to sign to Posh Boy Records and release their debut single “Amoeba” later in 1980. Almost exactly a year after their debut\, the band had recruited Agnew’s brother Rikk into the fold on Rhythm guitar\, and fellow Social D veteran Casey Royer on the drums\, and they were ready to go into the studio to record their first album. They signed with Frontier Records to release it\, and the selftitled record was released was released in May after being recorded and mastered in four days flat. The album was hugely acclaimed and was for a time the biggest selling Californian punk album ever after “Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables” by The Dead Kennedys. Unfortunately\, this wasn’t enough to keep the band together after more than a few months. Rikk Agnew was the first to go\, and briefly the band replaced him with The Germs’ Pat Smear (who would later join the Foo Fighters)\, but he was unable to tour with the band. By August\, the writing was on the wall and the Adolescents split up\, each member either joining existing bands or starting new ones. While the story of the Adolescents was far from over\, it wasn’t until the start of the 21st century that the band started finally getting their dues\, even after reuniting for three years in 1986. Many bands who swore by their first two albums became enormous in the 1990’s\, like Blink-182\, The Offspring and Red Hot Chili Peppers to name but a few. This level of exposure meant that when the band reunited again in 2001\, they did so to a far bigger audience than they’d ever had before\, and they immediately began performing live at the biggest shows of their career. The band have released five acclaimed studio albums since reforming ◦ OC Confidential (2005) ◦ The Fastest Kid Alive (2011) ◦ Presumed Insolent (2013) ◦ La Vendetta… (2014) ◦ Manifest Density (2016) • and are a bigger live draw than ever before\, as their heroic slot on the 2010 Vans Warped Tour show. Sadly in June of 2018 they lost one of their founding members: Steve Soto. Unsure how to move forward they play in his honor so the music he created\, the friendships he built and the smile he always shared can be remembered and cherished forever. \n\n\n \n\nThe Jack Knives\nThe Jack Knives are an American rock band from Orange County\, California\, formed in 2018. The band consists of British singer/songwriter Si Short (lead vocals\, rhythm guitar)\, Faris “Dragon” Muhtaseb (lead guitar\, backing vocals)\, Bryan “Brooce” Lee (bass guitar\, backing vocals)\, and Drew Baker (drums\, percussion). \nRooted in the punk rock sound\, The Jack Knives write sincere\, honest\, and passionate songs about love\, life\, death\, and romance. The band has stated its influences are wide and varied\, and this can be heard in the music. Songs like “New York City” give lyrical nods to artists like The Beastie Boys\, The Pogues\, and Bob Dylan. Other songs give proud props to bands like The Gaslight Anthem and Social Distortion.

SUMMARY:Beats Antique
DESCRIPTION:Beats Antique\n\n \n\nGrowing like wildfire under the canopy of live electronica and experimental world fusion music\, the acclaimed musical trio Beats Antique consists of David Satori – production\, live instrumentation\, Tommy Cappel – production\, percussion\, and Zoe Jakes – dance\, choreography. Forming in 2006\, the group now headlines various music festivals across the country including Coachella\, Lollapalooza\, and Electric Forest. With a stage performance containing more sensory indulgences than the most lavish genie’s lair\, Beats Antique will indulge their fans to a raw\, animalistic musical event that blurs the lines between the provocative\, the spiritual\, and the artistic while still maintaining allegiance to the muses of class and beauty. Their ability to blur the line between artist and audience even before the curtain rises creates a total escape both through live performance and the album experience that leaves critics and fans reeling alike.

SUMMARY:SLEEP THEORY - THE AFTERGLOW TOUR
DESCRIPTION:Sleep Theory\n\n \n\nSleep Theory delivers the dynamic\, heavy bounce and massive vocal hooks that the rock world desperately needs. Cullen Moore is a powerhouse singer who outmatches nearly all his peers\, recalling the most classic and timeless pop\, R&B\, and rock n’ roll vocalists of the last several decades. \nIn less than two years\, they became the fifth most-played artist on Active Rock radio\, with three songs on the year-end rock charts on YouTube and Amazon. “Fallout” was the ninth most-played song on Active Rock in 2024. Jelly Roll and David Draiman sing the band’s praises. Shinedown\, Falling In Reverse\, Beartooth\, Nothing More\, Wage War\, Set It Off\, and Daughtry have taken them on tour. \nOn Afterglow\, Sleep Theory’s full-length debut\, and the Paper Hearts EP\, the band’s rich\, emotional sound combines anthemic heavy rock like Linkin Park and Bring Me The Horizon with pop and R&B\, equally adept at breakdowns and ballads. Amazon Music\, Loudwire\, and Revolver named them an Artist To Watch in 2025. Revolver rightly declared\, “The band’s exciting mix of metalcore\, pop\, and R&B … has positioned Sleep Theory as one of heavy music’s biggest breakouts.” \nSleep Theory pushes themselves creatively at every turn\, catapulting the genre to new sonic heights.
