SUMMARY:SueB 5k and 3k Scavenger Hunt
DESCRIPTION:Continuing to honor the memory of Susan “SueB” Newby\, the 14th annual SueB 5K Fun Run will kick off on Sunday\, October 1st at 12 noon at Julia Davis Park. You can sign up to participate here with 5K registration starting at $25. \nThis event has always been about outreach and honoring the memory of Susan “Sue B ” Newby who died in 2008 during a mysterious horseback riding incident\, that was likely a domestic abuse incident.  After her death\, family and friends realized that SueB was likely in an abusive marriage. SueB’s sister\, Marj\, and friends\, Leslie and Teresa\, turned to the WCA as a way to honor SueB’s life and increase awareness about domestic abuse. Their hope is  to help other successful\, smart\, beautiful women like SueB leave these relationships before it’s too late. \nThis year as well as offering a 5K route\, we are also inviting families to participate in our 3k stroll for Every-Body. The 3K Urban route provides an opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt that allows you to learn more about the vital services the WCA provides in an engaging way. You can sign up here with a price of $10 for adults and children get in free! Both events raise awareness and encourage important discussions about domestic abuse – a passion of Sue’s family and friends.

SUMMARY:Sharon's Ride.Run.Walk. 2023
DESCRIPTION:Join the Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho for the Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk. 2023 a movement that brings our community together to educate\, spread awareness and make a difference for the people we love who live with epilepsy. These nationwide events are dedicated to the memory of Sharon Rosenfeld\, a nurse and teacher who cared deeply about epilepsy and advocated helmet safety. Click here to learn more about Sharon and helmet safety. \n  \nFunds raised from Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk. provide education and awareness\, training programs on seizure recognition and first aid\, as well as access to specialty and supportive care for the nearly 17\,000 people affected by epilepsy here in Idaho. Register as an individual\, join a team or create your own team!  After registration\, you’ll be able to create your own personal fundraising page and/or team page. Get your friends\, family members and co-workers to support your individual or team fundraising – share your personal story. \n  \nWhy your participation matters: \n\n1 in 10 people will experience a seizure in their lifetime\n1 in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy\n17\,000 Idahoans are living with epilepsy\n3.4 MILLION individuals nationwide are affected by epilepsy\n\n  \nMore people live with epilepsy than with autism spectrum disorders\, Parkinson’s disease\, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy combined. Epilepsy is one of the world’s oldest known medical conditions\, yet people with epilepsy still face stigma and misunderstanding. 1/3 of individuals are able to control their seizures with diet\, medications and other therapies; others continue to struggle with an unexplained diagnosis. Much more research is needed to understand the cause of epilepsy and eventually find a cure.
