February 9\, 1955 – April 4\, 2008 \nSusan Elaine Brubaker Newby died in 2008 during a mysterious horseback riding incident. After her death\, family\, and friends realized that SueB – her nickname – was likely in an abusive marriage. SueB’s sister\, Marj\, and friends\, Leslie and Teresa turned to the WCA as a way to honor SueB’s life and increase awareness about domestic violence. Their hope: “to help other successful\, smart\, beautiful women like SueB leave these relationships before it’s too late.” \n  \nAbout The Race:\nContinuing to honor the memory of Susan “Sue B” Newby\, The 16th Annual SueB 5K kicks off on Sunday\, October 5th at 12 pm at Julia Davis Park in Downtown Boise\, ID. Each participant will receive a free t-shirt*.  \nIn addition to the race\, there will be a community resource fair starting at 10:30 am that is open to the public. This is an opportunity to discover and learn about the fantastic resources that our community has to offer. Raising awareness and encouraging important discussions about domestic abuse has always been a passion of Sue’s family and friends. \nRace fees support our Endowment Fund to ensure the WCA can maintain our services and serve our clients for many years to come.  The object of this Endowment is to provide funds in perpetuity for the operation of all of the WCA’s programs to provide safety\, healing\, and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault. \nIn the heartfelt words of Sue’s sister Marj Sente: “Don’t wait until your sister\, daughter or mother is a victim of domestic abuse or sexual assault\, step forward now and make an investment in the WCA to raise awareness about domestic violence.”   \nThis is a great opportunity to celebrate positive relationships with your family\, friends\, and coworkers. Will you join us? \n  \nAbout The Course: \nThe 2025 SueB 5K course starts in Julia Davis park on the pathway between the Rose Garden and Boise Art Museum. Participants will venture onto the Boise River Greenbelt and travel east\, staying on the north side of the Greenbelt. There will be an aid station with water at the halfway point (near Kristen Armstrong Park). Runners and walkers will then turn and head back towards Julia Davis park\, finishing where they started! \nCHECK OUT THE FULL COURSE HERE\n\nPacket Pickup Information:\nWed. SUMMARY:2025 Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400
DESCRIPTION:The Idaho Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400 is a 400ish mile self-supported mountain bike route traversing some of Idaho’s diverse geography on two-track\, big gravel and dirt Forest Service roads\, singletrack and some paved roads. \n\n\n\nWhen\nDate: September 3 \nTime: 12:00 am \n\n\nDetails\nEvent Website \nOrganizer: Norb DeKerchove \nEmail: elev8208@gmail.com \n\n\nWhere\nHyde Park \n13th and Eastman\nBoise\, ID United States \n\n\nThe Idaho Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400 is a 400ish mile self-supported mountain bike race traversing some of Idaho’s diverse geography on two-track\, big gravel and dirt Forest Service roads\, challenging singletrack\, some hike-a-bike\, and a few paved roads. This 400ish mile loop features nearly 41\,000 feet of climbing with big expanses and big views. \nSeptember in Idaho is amazing! The weather is generally great – clear and warm during the day and chilly at night\, but it can also be fickle and unpredictable. The trees are starting to change colors and there are fewer people in the backcountry which leads to more wildlife sightings. \nThe Smoke ‘n’ Fire route travels through remote areas\, however\, there are sufficient resupply opportunities available. Idaho is a water rich state and much of the route winds along crystal clear rivers\, pristine streams and clear lakes. Plus there are many geothermal hot springs created by the forces of nature that are accessible and soakable. \nOur annual event begins\, and ends\, in downtown Boise in historic Hyde Park\, typically the second Wednesday of each September. There is no registration fee\, no support and no prize money. Live tracking of the event is provided by Trackleaders. \nThis is a self-supported event so please read the rules and be prepared for the unexpected.

SUMMARY:Polynesian Dance Classes on the Green!
DESCRIPTION:Every Saturday June 7th-August 30th at 9:00 AM \n \nExplore the traditions of Hawaiʻi and Tahiti through cultural dance. This introduction to Hula and ʻOri Tahiti will provide students with an understanding of the basic footwork\, motions\, and Hawaiian or Tahitian terminology involved in the traditional Polynesian dances. Hula is a low to moderate intensity dance class for those interested in learning the graceful storytelling of the Hawaiian people. ʻOri Tahiti is a moderate to high intensity dance class for those interested in learning Tahitian storytelling through upbeat hip movements. \nJoin us every Saturday from June 7th-August 30th at 9:00 AM in Fountain Square for this special Polynesian dance experience! \n\nAbout your instructor: \nLia Tupou’s dance journey began at the age of four\, nurtured by a family with deep ties to music\, and movement. From an early age\, she performed nearly every weekend at church events and community gatherings\, driven by a passion for sharing her Oceanic heritage through dance. Now a mother\, she hopes to instill this same love and cultural connection in her children and community. This year\, Lia is honored to join Nonosina on stage at the prestigious Merrie Monarch Festival\, marking a significant milestone in her lifelong journey as a dancer. \nClass Dates: \nJune:  7th\, 14th\, 21st\, 28th \nJuly:  5th\, 12th\, 19th\, 26th \nAugust:  2nd\, 9th\, 16th\, 23rd\, 30th
