SUMMARY:Aaron Butler Memorial Purple Heart Run
DESCRIPTION:Description\n\n\nThe 6th annual Aaron Butler Memorial Purple Heart Run (ABMPHR) will be held on Saturday\, August 17th\, 2024 at the Eagle Bike Park and surrounding trail system. We are getting back to where it all started in 2019\, including our original location in the heart of the Treasure Valley! \nSign up\, show up\, and embrace the suck in the 5K\, 10K\, or signature Unknown Distance Run (we guarantee no less than 400M and no more than 50K\, you won’t know the final distance until your finish.) We take great pride in delivering an awesome trail running experience\, but this isn’t a Boston Qualifier\, there is no chip-timing\, and no one cares if you walk the course. This event is about community and sacrifice\, the routes are lined with pictures and stories of our brothers and sisters who gave their lives in the service of our Nation. Aaron’s name is on the event\, but our event honors ALL of the Fallen. Don’t forget about our 16-and-under Youth 5K\, we care deeply about youth leadership development and believe that it begins with exposure to service and sacrifice. \nIt’s more than a run\, it’s an emotional and educational experience. \nNo posers\, no egos. If you’re down to clown with authentic veterans\, first-responders\, and patriots who celebrate the lives and legacies of those who gave all\, this event is for you. Registration gets you access to the run\, music\, food\, guest speakers\, beer\, non-alcoholic beverages (thanks a lot Dan)\, sweet raffle and auction items\, and lots to do for kids. We sweat\, we laugh\, we cry (just to water our beards)\, and we support each other. Join us. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlace\nEagle Bike Park\nOld Horseshoe Bend Rd\nEagle\, ID US 83714\n\n\n\n\nMore Than a Race\n\nThis is a celebration of all US servicemembers who have given their lives or parts of themselves physically in combat operations around the globe. The after party promises to be epic. We will have local beer\, music\, food\, local coffee\, and lots to do for kids. All race proceeds will go to the Aaron Butler Memorial Foundation (a 501C3 nonprofit). This event was created by local Purple Heart recipients\, and there will be an opportunity for all participants and supporters to meet and learn from those men and women who have been wounded in combat. The race courses will be lined with pictures and stories about Purple Heart Recipients who gave their lives in the Global War on Terror (since 9/11/2001). Bring out your families\, let your children meet and absorb the words of Gold Star families (who have lost loved ones in combat)\, Vietnam War Purple Heart Recipients\, and Purple Heart Recipients from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They are among us every day\, this in a unique opportunity for all of us to see and hear from local community members who have given more than most for our Nation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRace Contact Info\nIf you have any questions about this race\, please contact the race director at dan@aaronbutlermemorialfoundation.org\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSTAFF SERGEANT AARON BUTLER\n  \nAaron was born in Monticello\, UT. He was the seventh of eight children born to Randy and Laura Butler. He has one sister – Shannon – whom he adores\, and six brothers – Shane\, Quinn\, Nathan\, Andy\, Chad and Adam – who have been his companions through life. \nFrom the beginning\, Aaron has been a very determined\, adventurous soul. As a young child\, his bright blue eyes were always looking for mischief\, which he usually found. \nHe was so full of life\, happiness and endless energy! He loved the outdoor adventures best and could usually be found with a stick or a critter in his hands! He participated in and enjoyed the Boy Scouts of America\, eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout. \nThroughout high school he excelled in music\, football and his main focus\, wrestling. He set a specific goal to become a four-time state wrestling champion. \nThrough hard work and extraordinary determination\, he realized his goal\, becoming the first ever in Monticello High School history to achieve this mark and just the 17th wrestler in Utah State history. \nIn 2009\, Aaron volunteered himself for full-time service as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to labor in the Ghana Cape Coast Mission in Africa. \nFor two years\, he worked tirelessly\, teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Ghanaian people. He served them with a great love and compassion. \nHe aided them in building and improving homes\, wells and made numerous additional efforts in their behalf. \nHis dedicated service to others in this way highlights a distinct trait in his personality and soul. He cared about his fellowman\, their safety and wellbeing. He served others with the love of Jesus Christ. \nFrom a very young age\, Aaron became interested in the United States Military. As a first grader\, he announced to his family that he would be a soldier when he grew up. \nFrom that time on he never once wavered in that resolve. On April 10\, 2008\, while still in high school\, he enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard\, where he laid the building blocks of his military career. \nIn 2014\, he began the grueling Special Forces Training program. On January 14\, 2016 he graduated Special Forces Training and donned the Green Beret. He is one of four soldiers to graduate with honors. \nSince that day\, he has been decorated with additional combat awards. \nAaron died on August 16\, 2017 at the age of 27 in Nangarhar Province\, Afghanistan\, of injuries suffered from an improvised explosive device while clearing a booby-trapped building. \nAaron was a natural-born leader. He was determined to become an elite soldier and always led from the front. He wanted to be the ‘tip of the spear’. \nHe led by example and swift action. He personified the Army’s values in everything he said and did. He was a strength and inspiration to all those around him and a joy to his family. \nAaron was absolutely fearless\, selfless\, courageous and relentless. In a life that was all too brief\, our dear son and brother made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. \nAaron is survived by his parents Randy and Laura Butler of Monticello; fiancé Alexandria Seagroves of Cedar Hills\, UT; siblings Shannon (Brad) Young of St. George\, UT\, Shane (Michelle) of American Fork\, UT\, Quinn (Leesa) of Pleasant Grove\, UT\, Nathan (Brooke) of Bluffdale\, UT\, Andy (Tori) of Saratoga Springs\, UT\, Chad of Bluffdale\, UT and Adam Butler of Heber City\, UT; grandparents Pat and Marva Butler of Monticello and Stan (Diane) Augustine of Kettle Falls\, WA; and 25 nieces and nephews.

SUMMARY:Idaho Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400
DESCRIPTION:The Idaho Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400 is a 400ish mile self-supported mountain bike race traversing some of Idaho’s diverse geography on two-track\, big gravel and dirt Forest Service roads\, challenging singletrack\, some hike-a-bike\, and a few paved roads. This 400ish mile loop features nearly 41\,000 feet of climbing with big expanses and big views. \nSeptember in Idaho is amazing! The weather is generally great – clear and warm during the day and chilly at night\, but it can also be fickle and unpredictable. The trees are starting to change colors and there are fewer people in the backcountry which leads to more wildlife sightings. \nThe Smoke ‘n’ Fire route travels through remote areas\, however\, there are sufficient resupply opportunities available. Idaho is a water rich state and much of the route winds along crystal clear rivers\, pristine streams and clear lakes. Plus there are many geothermal hot springs created by the forces of nature that are accessible and soakable. \nOur annual event begins\, and ends\, in downtown Boise in historic Hyde Park\, typically the second Wednesday of each September. There is no registration fee\, no support and no prize money. Live tracking of the event is provided by Trackleaders. \nThis is a self-supported event so please read the rules and be prepared for the unexpected.

SUMMARY:Tobin Bolter Memorial Kids' Duathlon
DESCRIPTION:Place\nAda Eagle Bike Park\nOld Horseshoe Bend Rd\nGarden City\, ID US 83714\n\n\n\n\nDescription\n\n\nWe are so excited for the 8th Annual Ada County Kids’ Duathlon on Saturday\, September 21st\, now known as the Tobin Bolter Memorial Kids’ Duathlon. We have some really fun things lined up for your kids and can’t wait for the big day. Below you will find some important event logistics and a map of the event\, including the courses for each age group. \nPACKET PICKUP \nOne of our sponsors\, Fleet Feet\, has generously offered to host Packet Pickup in their stores the week before the event. You can choose to pick up your shirt\, bag\, and packet on either of the following days: \n\nWednesday\, September 18th from 12-6pm at the Nampa location (1850 Caldwell Blvd Ste 120\, Nampa\, ID 83651)\nThursday\, September 19th from 12-6pm at the Meridian location (3573 E Longwing Ln STE 105\, Meridian\, ID 83646)\n\nIf you are unable to attend either of these\, please let me know and we can work out another time and place. If your packet has not been picked up and I have not heard from you by 8:00AM the morning of the event\, I will assume you are unable to attend and forfeit your spot. \nDAY OF SCHEDULE \nWe have made some significant changes to this year’s schedule from years past. This year’s schedule will be as follows: \n8:30-9:00 Opening Ceremonies hosted by our elected officials. \n\nOur elected officials\, including the Board of Ada County Commissioners\, Ada County Sheriff Clifford\, and City of Eagle Mayor Pike will be speaking and kicking off our event for us.\n\n9:00-9:20 10-12 year old (girls) Race \n9:25-9:45 10-12 year old (boys) Race \n9:50-10:10 8-9 year old (girls) Race \n10:15-10:35 8-9 year old (boys) Race \n10:40- 11:00 6-7 year old (girls) Race \n11:05-11:25 6-7 year old (boys) Race \n11:30-11:50 4-5 year old (girls) Race \n11:55-12:15 4-5 year old (boys) Race \n12:20-12:30 3 year old Race \n12:30-1:30 Raffle and Award Ceremony \nOur elected officials will rejoin us for this portion of the event to help us pass out awards and over a dozen raffle items from generous local businesses. \nPARKING \nYou can park in either the North or South parking lots\, just be aware that the North parking lot will not be accessible during the races. We will have volunteers there ensuring that our participants are safe crossing the street. If you plan on attending the entirety of the event\, you shouldn’t have any issues\, but just heads up. You can also utilize the street as overflow parking. \nWhen you arrive\, place your participant(s)’ bikes in the designated bike corral along the race route in the south parking lot. When they are done with their race\, they will park them on the basketball court near the finish line. \nRACE RULES \nAll participants must wear a helmet any time they are on a bicycle. Each participant will receive a bib with timing chips attached in their race packet at packet pickup. When you arrive at the event\, it is imperative that you instruct your children not to cross the start or finish line outside of their race\, as it will mess up their time and alter the results. Keep in mind that these courses are happening on trails – there is not a lot of extra room for passing or for parents to be close by. We do have designated spectator viewing areas\, and will also have volunteers placed along the route to ensure their safety. For parents of our 3 year old competitors\, who will mostly be on asphalt and will only do the running portion on the trail\, if your child needs you to run the race with them for moral support\, you are welcome to do that! \nSPONSORS AND ON SITE VENDORS \nWe have some really great vendors lined up to be on site at this year’s event. There is a preliminary map attached of who we will have on site this year (subject to change\, as we are still over a month out and still have some potential vendors TBD). Outside of your race\, you can visit these vendors\, do crafts\, get your face painted\, or grab a bite to eat. This year\, our food will be provided by local Boys and Girls Scouts as a fundraiser for their troops. Menu items (most likely breakfast burritos\, fruit\, beverages\, chips\, hot dogs\, etc.) will be priced at $2-5 per item. To help them get a general headcount and plan how much food they will need\, it would be super helpful if you would fill out this form. Don’t worry\, we won’t hold you to this 😊 Just trying to get them an idea of a headcount so they can be as successful as possible. \nEVENT SPONSORS \nThis event truly would not be possible without our sponsors\, so we wanted to make sure to give them a shout out here and express our gratitude to them. Our platinum sponsors are Fleet Feet\, North Star Outdoor Services\, and Scheels. Our gold sponsors are Dillabaugh’s Flooring\, Hardin Sanitation\, Kidstrong Meridian\, and ICCU. We are also very grateful to the YMCA\, our timers and co-hosts at this event. \nWe are also incredibly grateful to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for allowing us to rename this event in honor of Deputy Tobin Bolter. It is an honor to play a small part in memorializing him and his service to our community.
