SUMMARY:Run for Dunn
DESCRIPTION:What is Get It Dunn\nThe rally to Get It Dunn started in 2011 as a way for friends and family of Amy Dunn to stand beside her as she fought a diagnosis of Stage IV melanoma. Get It Dunn became both a support system and a fundraising effort to help Amy receive and get through the treatment she needed. Just as importantly\, and all too fittingly\, Get It Dunn was also a mantra for Amy’s “give it all you’ve got” approach to living life. She gave her best and demanded the best from others. She got it done. \nToday\, we strive to embody the spirit of Getting It Dunn in our daily lives to honor and remember Amy. Since her passing\, Amy’s family and friends continue to Get It Dunn by promoting melanoma awareness and sun safety – primarily through our annual fun run\, Run for Dunn.

The drop-off lane at Eastover Terraces closes at 9:30 am. There is no registration or packet pick-up on race day. Drivers need to stay in their vehicles and allow the Race Volunteers to escort their racers from the car to the proper starting area. Please do not get out of your vehicle. \nTip: Take your pre-race pictures at home! \nRace Bib: Bib numbers need to be pinned to the front of the body on the outermost layer of clothing. Do not exchange bib numbers among siblings or friends\, each child’s name\, emergency contact\, and color of flag where the child is meeting their family will be on the back of the bib to help with confusion. \nThis race is a chip-timed event\, on the back of the bib is a timing chip. Please do not bind or remove the timing chip. \nShortened/Adaptive Race Course: \nThe Capitol Classic encourages kids with all abilities to participate. There is an adaptive course for kids with physical or mental disabilities that starts at 9:30 prior to the main race. This race will start at the corner of Capitol and Idaho. City of Boise Parking Info>> \nFinish Line\nThe Finish Line Celebration will be in Cecil D Andrus Park. All children will receive a medal in the finish line area and be ushered into the park to reconnect with their families. There will be water and a healthy snack for all finishers. Then you can visit booths to learn about our Race Sponsors and fun summer activities. \nHow do I find my child? What happens at the end of the Race?\nGiant colored flags in red\, blue\, green\, and pink will be at the Finish Celebration for all to see. We recommend that you choose a color with your child and designate that color of the flag for your meeting place. \nWe ask that parents and guardians stay off the race course and do not enter the finish line area. Please remember the finish line is exciting\, be patient while you wait for your child to make it to your designated meeting spot. \nTip: We will have markers at packet pick up so you can mark the color on the back of your child’s bib with that color (a little reminder for them\, in case they forget). \nRace History:\nThe Saint Alphonsus Capitol Classic Race was started by Ron and Betsy Twilegar in 1983 to encourage young people to become interested in physical fitness\, especially running. At the first race held on September 2\, 1983\, 1\,000 children ran from the State Capitol Building to the Union Pacific Depot. Through the efforts of Dr. Michael and Kirsten Coughlin\, Saint Alphonsus became involved in supporting the race in 1987. The race date was changed to the end of the school year and has continued as a tradition for many Treasure Valley families. \nFrequently Asked Questions\nThere is no registration or packet pick-up on race day. \nCan I walk or run with my child?\nAbsolutely! Parents who want to run alongside their children are free to do so. However\, let’s keep in mind the focus of this run – it’s all about our youth! We request having one adult per child for safety reasons. If you plan to run with your kids\, we recommend joining them after the starting line or starting your group at the back of the pack. Let’s give our kids the chance to shine! Parents do not need to register. Parents will not receive a medal or shirt. \nWe partner with the organization\, THRIVE\, which provides volunteers to run with children who may need extra assistance to complete the course. THRIVE will have volunteers at the starting line to escort youth to the finish line\, our team will get them set up with a volunteer if needed. Please be sure to select the option when registering. \nWhat kind of precautions and security measures are taken to keep kids safe?\nMore than 250 volunteers team up with us along with Boise Police Department and Boise Motor Escort to carefully monitor the race from start to finish ensuring the safety of the children. Volunteers will be wearing shirts with “VOLUNTEER” imprinted on the front. At the START\, adult volunteers stay with the children as they are organized in their individual age and gender groups. \nDoes my child have to run the entire race? What if my child cannot finish the race?\nKids of all abilities are encouraged to participate\, regardless of their speed. Some children run the entire race but may walk\, skip\, or do a little of both. Just in case\, we do have official pick-up vehicles for anyone unable to finish. Remember – everyone is a winner and all youth participants receive a medal and refreshments at the Finish Line. \nWhat happens at the end of the race? How do I find my child? How do I find my parent?\nGiant colored flags in red\, blue\, green\, and pink\, will be the Finish Line for all to see. We recommend that you choose a color with your child and designate that color of the flag for your meeting place. We suggest marking your child’s bib with the color. Please remember the Finish Line is exciting and chaotic\, be patient while waiting for your child to make it to your designated meeting spot. If you get separated from your child\, please go to the BOB FM Radio booth and they will announce over the sound system the name of the missing person. \nTips For Capitol Classic: \nPin your racer’s bib number to the FRONT of their shirt or outermost layer of clothing in all four pin holes.\nDon’t cover the bib\, make sure it is visible at all times.\nTake pictures at home before hopping in the car.\nGive kisses and well wishes so they will be ready to join their age group when you drop them off at the Boise Depot\nNo water bottles\, we will have water available for those who need it before the start.\nChildren are encouraged to wear their Capitol Classic Shirt on Race Day\nStart and finish maps will be included at packet pick-up.

To have FUN! – All ages and abilities are welcome to attend. There will be games\, prizes\, bounce houses\, pictures\, food trucks\, places to socialize\, stage performances\, racecars\, vendors\, exhibitors\, and information booths for local support agencies. \n2.) To recruit Caregivers – There are not enough caregivers\, this is a crisis\, and we need help. But what does being a caregiver look like? Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the foundation of all support given to people with disabilities in our community by providing one-on-one personal care services that clinical professionals do not have time for. DSPs support people to live full and meaningful lives. Again\, what does this look like? Come to the Carnival and see. See how these amazing people interact and support their clients and friends. Interact with community members who need support and decide if you have time or interest in becoming a DSP. There will be agencies hiring and a booth of community support worker positions. Full-time\, Part-time\, Days\, Nights\, Evenings\, Weekends\, all shifts are available. Need training\, no problem\, we can help with that too. Being a Caregiver is not for everyone. That’s okay. If you only attend to have FUN\, you are still supporting our community! \n3.) To Connect our Community – It is hard to ask for help. It is even harder to find help when you don’t know who to ask. Many times\, people do not know there is help for them. If you feel alone or unable to get the support you need\, come to our Carnival. Our community is full of amazing and knowledgeable people who care. This event is an opportunity to network with and meet others who believe that Everyone Deserves Support. We need to support those who give support. \nFREE Admission: includes a Booth Bingo Card\, map\, and schedule to performances by the Idaho Renaissance Festival\, Whiskey Tango Blues Jazz Band\, Akashic Moves\, and more to be announced. \nCarnival Tickets: 1 for $3\, 2 for $5\, 5 for $10\, 10 for $18 & 20 for $30\nThis is the fundraising part of the Carnival. All proceeds will benefit My Places Community Events 501c3 to continue providing educational and recreational events for people with disabilities throughout our community.

SUMMARY:Emo Nite
DESCRIPTION:Not a band. Not DJ’s. We throw parties for the music we love. \nAs Rolling Stone observed a few years ago\, “Emo Nite Vindicated the Scene.” \nSince they threw their first party at an East L.A. dive bar\, Morgan Freed and T.J. Petracca\, and a dedicated crew of regular attendees\, built Emo Nite into a phenomenon. Top-tier emo artists\, old and new\, curate playlists and perform\, with guest lists boasting members of blink-182\, All Time Low\, Dashboard Confessional\, The Maine\, and Good Charlotte. Scene-friendly pop culture mavericks often participate\, like past attendees Post Malone\, Demi Lovato\, Machine Gun Kelly\, and Skrillex. \nIt’s all too easy to forget that before the first Emo Nite in December 2014\, “emo” was a joke. \nSomehow on its journey from a melodic post-hardcore subgenre\, built on earnest emotional expression\, to a mainstream moniker assigned to anything remotely angsty\, “emo” became a dirty word. Despite the positive impact ushered in by waves of bands\, from the crucial “Revolution Summer” and Sunny Day Real Estate through Taking Back Sunday and My Chemical Romance\, accepting “emo” as a dismissive designation or identity invited polite embarrassment and even scorn. \nBut Freed and Petracca grew up loving the music associated with emo and the people like them who similarly embraced outsider art and subculture\, regardless of changing fashions or pretentious snobbery. Petracca told The New Yorker the idea behind the first Emo Nite celebration was to center a happy\, communal experience on the music they once listened to when they were upset and alone. \n“I sang Dashboard Confessional at karaoke at a friend’s birthday party and thought it was super fun to go out with friends and listen to music we actually liked\,” recalls Petracca\, who met Freed when the pair worked at a creative agency together. “Every other club in LA played EDM\, Top 40\, or hip-hop. We always found ourselves pre-gaming with emo and pop-punk music before we went out.” \nFreed knew a bartender at the Short Stop in Echo Park and convinced him to let them throw a party on a random\, rainy Tuesday. They invited friends via Facebook; double the bar’s capacity turned up. “We decided to see how far we could take it\,” Petracca says. “‘Who would be the craziest guest?’ We invited Mark Hoppus\, and he came! He did our first one at Echoplex\, which was our third party ever.” \n“There’s no disconnect between the artist and fan\,” Freed points out. “I think that’s brought people closer to the music. It created a really strong sense of community\, at a time when emo wasn’t ‘cool.’” \nThere may be a surprise acoustic set or even a full-band performance\, but ultimately\, it’s about the experience. Emo Nite turned a party into a community\, reclaiming the spirit of how the scene began. \nIt’s now a recurring event thrown by dozens of friends in over 30 cities in the United States. Emo Nite runs full-day festivals and curates coveted performance spots at Coachella\, Life is Beautiful\, and Firefly. Freed and Petracca launched successful clothing collaborations with brands like OBEY\, Urban Outfitters\, PLEASURES\, The Hundreds\, Rose in Good Faith\, Market\, and OWSLA. \n“A larger promoter told us the shelf life of a club night in Los Angeles was two years\,” Freed says\, marveling at Emo Nite’s staying power. “A hundred percent of it is the people that go to it. This music makes people feel connected. The energy of it is so special. You get a group of people together who look different\, but they have this thing in common. We started seeing friend groups form really\, really quickly. People met their significant others at these events. The community really trusts each other.” \n“Emo Nite LA has become an essential gathering point for fans of emo\, pop-punk\, and related styles\,” Rolling Stone noted. \nIn October 2021\, Emo Nite’s founders threw Emo Nite Vegas Vacation\, a three-day event headlined by Avril Lavigne and Machine Gun Kelly\, with Sleeping With Sirens\, MOD SUN\, 3OH!3\, and more. \n“What Emo Nite does better than any of their competitors is they make ‘emo culture’ feel both nostalgic and brand new\,” The Summer Set’s Brian Logan Dales told Forbes\, in a profile which included professions of love from members of Papa Roach\, Underoath\, and State Champs. “You can go to an Emo Nite with your best friends and sing along to old songs you grew up with\, and at the same time\, discover a brand-new artist who’s making music today because they grew up on that very same music as you. They’ve taken the emo of the past and helped it forge a new path for the future.” \nAs emo reenters popular culture with a blend of adoring nostalgia and optimistic forward- thinking\, Emo Nite remains an authentic space to celebrate diversity\, experience passionate catharsis\, and champion authentic expression. Emo Nite isn’t a band or a DJ crew. It’s an idea\, one as simple as the urge to throw a party for a beloved style of music. Often imitated but never truly duplicated\, Emo Nite’s founders and supporters are fond of saying\, “If you don’t see the grave\, it ain’t our rave.” \n“There’s a lot of ownership from our community of the event itself and the Emo Nite brand\,” Petracca says. “It’s about breaking down that barrier of ‘Look at me\, it’s all about me.’ No\, it’s about us\, together\, in this room. It belongs to every single person that comes through the door.”\nThe co-founders continue to look ahead. “Emo Nite definitely impacted culture\,” Freed notes. “But we have no plans to stop changing the way we view the evolution and expansion of the genre.”

SUMMARY:SAW the Musical
DESCRIPTION:SAW The Musical: The Unauthorized Parody of Saw premiered Off-Broadway Fall 2023 in New York after its smash out-of-town tryout in Philadelphia! One of the most thought-provoking horror films of all time now is…a musical. SAW The Musical hilariously captures the events of the first movie\, parodying the Saw that started it all\, following from where Lawrence Gordon and Adam Stanheight find each other for the first time in the bathroom trap. Will they follow “the rules” as they discover each other’s secrets? Will they escape the game in time and saw right through? A love story with fluidity (and lots more fluids)\, SAW The Musical: The Unauthorized Parody of Saw is Little Shop of Horrors meets Avenue Q\, pushing the boundary on sexuality and how to love. \nThe show is recommended for audience 16+. Children under the age of 6 are not permitted in the theatre. Parental discretion is strongly advised due to adult themes. Though there is certainly blood\, gore is minimal in this show being a parody. \nSAW The Musical is currently planning/booking its 24 month+ National Tour launching in Los Angeles February 2024\, after opening Off-Broadway September 16th 2023. Originally only planned through January 1st 2024\, the show has now been extended twice in New York\, currently until June 23rd 2024 (www.sawthemusical.com).
