DESCRIPTION:Built to Spill was formed in 1993 by Doug Martsch and over the years they have toured extensively and made several albums with a rotating cast of musicians\, currently featuring Teresa Esguerra (Prism Bitch) on drums\, and Melanie Radford (Blood Lemon) on bass. \n\n \n\nBlood Lemon\nThe desert often represents scarcity\, a place where few signs of life can be found. For the women in Blood Lemon\, however\, trading their homebase in the high desert of Boise\, Idaho for the low desert in Joshua Tree\, California would prove to be the right choice to give the five songs found on Petite Deaths their final form. \n“Small bursts of either pleasure or despair\,” says bassist and vocalist Melanie Radford of the collection comprising Blood Lemon’s sophomore release. “I think what came out was something eclectic and mystic\,” she added. Using the seemingly scant resources of the Mojave\, Radford\, guitarist and vocalist Lisa Simpson\, and drummer/percussionist Lindsey Lloyd\, culled together their strongest set of songs to date. \nWorking alongside esteemed fuzz lord Dave Catching (Desert Sessions\, Queens of the Stone Age\, earthlings?) at the storied Rancho De La Luna studio\, the band treated the sessions as a retreat rather than a routine visit to a recording studio. To make the most of the time away from Boise\, the band stayed in an adjacent bungalow on the property\, seizing an opportunity to “briefly get away from distractions in our immediate lives\,” says Radford. \nBlood Lemon\, a mainstay of the Boise scene despite Radford’s recent move to nearby Seattle\, received plenty of praise for their eponymous debut released in the throes of the pandemic. NPR Music\, A.V. Club\, SPIN\, and other outlets of repute lauded their debut that garnered comparisons to other beloved female-fronted influences like Sleater-Kinney and The Breeders. Following celebrated appearances at Treefort Music Fest in their hometown as well as dates supporting avant-garage heavy hitters The Shivas and viral goth-punks Vision Video\, the band crafted a collection of songs with widened emotional registers when Radford was on break from serving as the current bassist of indie stalwarts Built To Spill. \nWhile the songs on Petite Deaths are\, no doubt\, less overtly political than the band’s debut LP\, they are no less provocative. The record’s opener\, “High Tide\,” explores Simpson’s fascination with “concepts around sensuality and completion” and “what other languages and cultures called an orgasm.” Echoing the aforementioned Breeders’ penchant for blending distorted guitars with entrancing female vocals\, the track provides plenty of overdrive alongside lyrics that speak to our animalistic tendency to seduce and be seduced. Thoroughly couched in metaphor\, Simpson’s lyrics might still pass as classroom-appropriate in her new role as a teacher at her daughter’s elementary school in Boise. \nOther songs on the collection put Radford’s ethereal vocals and erudite bass playing on full display\, often branching out into new territory. For example\, “Her Shadow” was “an experiment on how to collaborate differently\,” says Radford of using Lloyd’s pre-written lyrics as a basis to develop melodies and chords around. A sludged-out reworking of Jessica Pratt’s “Mountain’r Lower” also gives plenty of room for the band’s psychedelic and more other-worldly influences to shine through. With searing lead guitars and pulsing rhythms\, the collection’s first single\, “Perfect Too\,” offers a scathing critique of contemporary culture’s tendency to sell perfectionism without any promise of moral salvation. \n“Mudlark\,” another song with Simpson’s voice at the forefront\, is equally full of wonder. Inspired by Scottish actor Sam Heughan’s review of Mudlarking\, a novel by Lara Maiklem\, the song explores the theme of scavengers who meander riverbanks for hidden treasures. An “unabashed” fan of Heughan’s work as an actor and author\, Simpson gravitated towards imagery in his review of the novel\, and in her words\, of “a person being a possession that ends up being tossed away\, and hidden beneath the surface of the riverbed.” The result\, an expansively melancholic track that crescendos into one of the band’s signature dirges toward the end of its six-plus minutes of runtime\, exhibits how the band can hold an audience’s attention with songs longer than those conforming to traditional radio formats. \nBeyond the expansiveness of the desert influencing the sonic landscape of Petite Deaths\, birth also became a central component of the album’s creative force. Following the recording sessions\, Lloyd soon learned that she would be expecting the birth of her first daughter\, Zenith. Lloyd’s dedication to the band was underscored when the band performed a show in the winter of 2023 in the last weeks of her pregnancy. Well aware that scheduling any major life decisions while playing in an active band can be difficult\, Lloyd notes that “the timing of making the record couldn’t have been better.” \nAs the final notes fade and captured sounds of coyotes howling in the Mojave fill the silence\, the listener is immersed in the stark beauty of the desert and the transformative power of collaboration. Petite Deaths is a testament to how these three women continue to invent – and reinvent – themselves through a shared love of song and embracing change with resourcefulness. The album stands as a powerful statement\, echoing with the vastness of the desert and the intimate journey of creation\, both musical and personal. \n\n\n \n\nPlum Vision\nPlum Vision is an all girl punk/alternative rock trio from Boise\, ID\, composed of Kiyah Amanie\, Ella Thurston\, and Megan Miller. \nWith aggressive yet playful energy that harkens back to groups from The Runaways to Hole\, Plum Vision’s sound is the best of ‘90s Seattle riot grrrl punk with a heavy dose of late ‘70s psych rock. \nSeamlessly balancing between sweet-voiced melodies and hard-hitting power cords\, Plum Vision does not shy away from big feelings and sucker punch lyrics that cut to the bone.

Blending Reggae\, Punk Rock\, and 80s style dueling guitar solos\, The Expendables have made heads turn and floors shake for years. \nThe band consists of four longtime friends: Geoff Weers (Guitar and Vocals)\, Adam Patterson (Drums and Vocals)\, Raul Bianchi (Lead Guitar) and Ryan DeMars (Bass).  The first seven years of their career was fueled with three full-length\, completely independent releases.  No Time To Worry (2000)\, Open Container (2001)\, and Gettin’ Filthy (2004)\, would bring in a combined total of over 40\,000 units sold with no physical distribution and no record label. \nWhile touring and supporting their album\, Gettin’ Filthy\, The Expendables would share the stage with Slightly Stoopid and catch the attention of founders and front men Kyle McDonald and Miles Doughty.  In 2007 Slightly Stoopid formed their own independent label\, Stoopid Records\, and signed The Expendables for the label’s first non-Stoopid release\, which was The Expendables self-titled.  Released in September 2007\, the album would be accepted as an instant classic by fans and received rave reviews from critics. \nThe band continued supporting the album with hundreds of shows over the next two years\, gaining fans around the world\, and respect from the bands that influenced them.  Early 2009 The Expendables toured relentlessly.  Within a few short months\, they hit the road with NOFX\, Less Than Jake\, Pennywise\, and Pepper. In case that was not enough\, The Expendables were honored to join 311 on their Summer Unity amphitheater tour\, rocking huge stages\, and opening new doors for the band. \nThe boys decided idle time was not an option after the conclusion of their tour with 311\, so they went straight in to the studio to begin recording their next album\, Prove It. Paul Leary (producer of Sublime\, Slightly Stoopid\, Pepper\, Supersuckers\, as well as guitar player for Butthole Surfers) and El Hefe (guitar player of NoFX) would split producing duties at Big Fish studios in Encinitas\, California. \nProve It was released May 11th 2010 debuting at #158 on the Billboard Top 200\, #30 on Billboard’s Independent charts\, and #4 on Billboard’s Heatseekers!  The album also pushed to #15 on iTunes Top 200 and #5 on iTunes Alternative Charts\, jumping The Expendables to a new level in their career.  The band’s new release would include guest performances by C-Money\, OG\, and Dela of Slightly Stoopid throughout the album.  Jumping into the mix as well would be long time friend G. Love on the ballad “Wells”. \nTo support the release of Prove It\, The Expendables continued their tenacious touring schedule with their popular yearly Winter Blackout Tour\, a headlining Spring Tour\, a slot supporting Slightly Stoopid and Steel Pulse on this summers\, Cauzin’ Vapors tour and will be in Europe with The Mad Caddies during the fall.  The band will close out the year with a national headlining run that will be sure to keep The Expendables strong hype building. \nThirteen years later\, five albums down and countless miles covered The Expendables show no signs of slowing down.

The group plays a smooth melodic style of alternative/ indie rock with elements of folk\, progressive rock and funk mixed in. \nThe group was launched in 2007 by founding members; Todd Sloan (guitar/vox) and Josh Gilmore (bass). Kevin Alspach(drums) joined the band in 2011\, Fernando Flores(guitar) 2016 and Tomek Zajaczkowski(keys) 2020. They released their first LP “Where You Are” in August of 2007. Followed by their sophomore effort “After All This Time” in 2011. \nThe band has had music featured on the CW television network’s “One Tree Hill” and Showtime’s “the big C”. Their story telling style of music and multiple harmonies will make you want to sing along\, grab the hand of the person next to you and move your feet. \n\n\n \n\nGregory Rawlins\nGregory Rawlins was born in lush and rainy Port Orchard\, Washington\, and when he wasn’t building forts or popping wheelies he was marveling at the beauty of the natural world.
