2025 Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400

The Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400 is a self-supported, roughly 400-mile mountain bike race through some of Idaho’s most remote and scenic terrain, with nearly 41,000 feet of climbing across two-track, gravel Forest Service roads, singletrack, and a bit of pavement. The route begins and ends in Boise’s historic Hyde Park neighborhood, typically on the second Wednesday of September. There’s no entry fee, no support, and no prize money — just riders and the backcountry. September in Idaho brings clear, warm days, cool nights, changing leaves, and access to geothermal hot springs along the route.
