Idaho Potato Drop

December 31 @ 6:00 pm

The Idaho Potato Drop is Boise’s signature New Year’s Eve celebration, held annually at Cecil D. Andrus Park in front of the Idaho State Capitol. This quirky and iconic event features the dramatic descent of the world-famous “GlowTato”—a giant illuminated potato—at midnight, accompanied by fireworks and live entertainment. Starting at 6:00 PM, the festivities include food trucks, local vendors, an all-ages beer garden, and the thrilling Urban Air Ski & Snowboard Exhibition, complete with custom-built jumps and features. The Idaho Potato Drop has earned national recognition, ranking among the top New Year’s Eve drops in the U.S., and draws thousands of visitors from across the state and beyond. Free to the public and supported by local sponsors, this spud-tacular celebration is a uniquely Idaho way to ring in the new year.
