OPIUO w/ Late Night Radio, rSUN

February 20 @ 8:00 pm

Opiuo is a genre-bending plethora of auditory and visual masterclasses. Born in 1984 in rural New Zealand, his parents provided the land upon which music festivals were held. This extremely formative growth surrounded by the early incarnations of Aotearoa’s electronic music scene exposed him to the celebration of life through self-expression, dance, and giant sound systems. These experiences shaped so much of who he is & what he stands for today. Positivity and movement at the core of the project, his music is an infectious electronic based blend of funk, soul, psychedelia, and booty-shaking bass.

Now calling the US home, Oscar tours his party-starting music throughout the globe. Having spent more than a decade performing at some of the world’s most renowned festivals and venues including Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, and Coachella, as well as selling out Colorado’s famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre multiple times, he’s performed his music in an unimaginably large array of formats. From self-built Orchestras, to collaborating with symphony choirs, touring his own Opiuo Band, and as an immersive solo audio & visual show, his live creativity is limitless.

Taking home the New Zealand Music Award for Best Electronic Album in 2014, his catalogue is vast. Having released 5 full-length albums, 10 EPs, and a myriad of singles and remixes over the last 16 years. His latest album ASCENSION SEEKER is OUT NOW, and in his own words, he is still “just getting started!”.

Late Night Radio

Late Night Radio

Colorado-based electronic music producer Late Night Radio presents his latest album, “Pocket Full of Dreams” [Philos Records]. This introspective masterpiece skillfully blends reflective rhythms and soul-inspired hip-hop beats, exploring life’s pursuits and dreams. Alex Medellin (Late Night Radio) is a consistent force in the electronic music scene, crafting authentic sounds driven by passion. “Pocket Full of Dreams” reflects Medellin’s life experiences and the importance of vulnerability in art.

The album draws inspiration from energetic tour experiences and reflective studio sessions, offering a deep perspective. Medellin aimed to create music for himself, free from live show influences. Collaborators like Motifv, Poldoore, and Michal Menert enrich the album’s sonic tapestry and narrative. Each track tells a unique story, from evolving dreams to internal conflicts and the beauty of life.

Medellin’s personal struggle with self-worth and adaptation shines through the album. It’s a musical journal, reflecting his lifelong romance with music. “Pocket Full of Dreams” is an emotional, introspective journey for listeners, inviting them to embark on their own self-discovery.

In Medellin’s words: “Dream big and don’t give up. We all go through periods of self-doubt, but if you keep going, there’s always another peak after the valley, no matter how far away it seems.”
