Still Deciding Whether you like Boise’s Weather?

Embracing Boise’s Four Seasons — From This Mellow Summer to a Frigid Forecast Ahead

If you’ve lived in Boise for a while, you know our weather can keep you on your toes. It’s a place where the rhythm of the seasons shapes daily life. From sun-drenched summers and snow-kissed winters to spring and fall each with their own personalities, Boise’s climate offers a dynamic backdrop for outdoor adventures, cozy indoor escapes, and everything in between. This summer, you’ve probably noticed – the weather has taken a gentler turn than recent years and Summer 2025 has been surprisingly mellow. But according to the latest Farmer’s Almanac forecast, the upcoming winter might be anything but mellow.

Summer 2025: A Surprisingly Mild Summer

After the blistering summer of 2022, which saw a record 27 days over 100°F, Boise residents welcomed the reprieve this year. As of early August 2025, the city has only experienced four triple-digit days. Compared to the 20 such days in 2024, this summer has felt refreshingly moderate — allowing events like the Boise Music Festival and Snake River Stampede to proceed comfortably.

This cooler trend has been a pleasant surprise, especially for those who remember the heat-induced schedule changes and early closures of past summers. Sure, there were a few scorchers, but nothing like last year’s relentless heat wave. While Boise typically averages 8–10 days over 100°F annually, this year’s tally is well below that mark.

Winter 2025–26: “Chill, Snow, Repeat”

Don’t get too comfortable, though. Although summer weather might still be hanging on, the Farmer’s Almanac has released its much-anticipated Extended Weather Forecast for winter 2025-26 issuing a bold forecast ominously titled “Chill, Snow, Repeat.” Idaho is expected to experience one of the coldest winters in recent memory, with significant cold snaps predicted for mid-January and mid-February.

Snowlovers will be rejoicing! If you’re craving a classic winter wonderland, this could be your year. Widespread wintry weather and snowfall is expected to be substantial, especially in the Pacific Northwest mountains. We’re in for a powdery treat! While Boise itself averages around 18 inches of snow annually, this winter could exceed that, particularly in the surrounding mountains.

Boise enjoys a semi-arid climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are typically hot and dry, with average highs peaking around 92°F in July. Winters are cold and snowy, with January lows dipping to about 25°F and highs hovering near 38°F. Spring and fall bring transitional beauty — wildflowers in March and golden foliage in October — with mild temperatures perfect for hiking, biking, and exploring the foothills. Each season brings its own charm.
